I think that you are mixing your metaphors. There is only one flavor of HD – Blu-Ray.
You can put about 12-minutes of Blu-Ray (.m2t or .avc, I think) on a 4.7Gb DVD, but it only plays in some Blu-Ray players (and NO DVD players).

I would easily say that at least 1/3 of the posts on this forum are from people frustrated that no matter what they do they are having some serious issues.
Since this is a user support forum, it’s no surprise that most posts are an issue of some sort. Not many users post that their system is rock-solid and working great.
Speaking from my experience as a former tech support manager for a Silicon Valley embedded PC manufacturer, if we couldn’t duplicate a customer’s problem, then we couldn’t fix it. Reinstall the O/S or programs was all we could offer.
To extrapolate that experience to SCS, If you can’t provide the steps to replicate the problem on their PC’s, then – all they can do is offer suggestions.
Also, there’s really only a few people – a dozen at the most – always complaining about “serious problems”. I suspect that the majority of users on these forums are generally quite happy with their installations of Vegas.

Your PC is already slightly underpowered for video editing, so why burden the hard-disk with windows housekeeping tasks, Vegas program routines and reading/writing video data at the same time?

I couldn’t work without “undo” – for every edit on my timeline, there’s probably two undo’s.
Do you have problems with CTRL-Z with other programs? (Photoshop, Word?)

Your PC is barely enough horsepower to work with any HD format, let alone MPEG. I have almost the same PC, but a quad-core processor and it is just fast enough for HDV. Also, if you only have one HDD, then you are handicapping your editing. Ideally you should have a second HDD for your media.

Flash is the only way this works, along with a flash player that will let you set the ‘wmode=transparent’ flag.

I can crash Vegas (and Photoshop and other CPU intensive programs) by simply getting too far ahead of the program. I don’t consider it a bug or a Vegas crash, because I can cause at will. If I slow down and let the program’s command buffer catch up, I never crash.
But, I am experimenting with an SSD for my video projects. Results will be reported when they are available.

But, again, which event? Sometimes I want to split just one event, sometimes I want to split them all.
I suppose that you could write a script to split all events at the cursor position. Then you can assign a hotkey to run that script.

How’s this for irony… I had exactly the same issue just a few minutes ago.
Select Disk At Once. Set the speed to half the maximum available, select “Buffer Underrun protection”, “Render temporary image” and “Eject when done”. then do nothing else on the PC while burning the CD.

Media on the timeline are events, not clips.
I use JKL editing all the time, but when you say that you want the event under the cursor selected – which one?
It’s not unusual for me to have 20- to 30-tracks on my timeline, so using the mouse to select a specific event is the only method available.
