I hope you saw Kevin’s reply in time, I was rushed and forgot to tell you that today, May 14, is the end of the discount promo.

Whomever told you to uninstall 10C is misinformed.
Uninstalling prior versions has never been required of SCS software.

Since you don’t control what platform the end user has, the answer is generally, no. Specifically, before Windows 7 you could simply write an Autorun.inf file to run your DVD video straight from the USB stick. Windows, however, removed this ability from Windows 7.

One malware that used the AutoRun functionality as a spreading mechanism was the Conficker worm. The Conficker worm added a false “Open folder to view files” action in the action list in the AutoPlay dialog box and if the user clicked on this false action, their computer was infected. And if the user with the infected computer plugged another USB stick in the USB port, also that USB stick got infected.

Can you take a screenshot of the problem? Where are you seeing it (preview, final encode, TV, PC, Microwave Oven?)

Generally, you want to keep the highest resolution as long as you can, and only transcode to a lower resolution at the final steps.

It probably wouldn’t hurt to report this *possible* bug to Sony. It could have something to do with the veg file getting rewritten for 10d.

Your workflow is obviously different from mine because I never keep unused media in my project. I have used MS Explorer for my clip organization for so many years that it’s second-nature to me now.

Is it possible that the drive that one of those pieces of media were supposed to be on was offline? could Windows have simply been searching everything on your local network for the media?

I am interested in learning what you find as your project proceeds.

May 10, 2011 at 3:58 pm in reply to: Do I need Sorenson Squeeze?

    It can squeeze your wallet.

I bought Squeeze because I can’t do h.264 from Vegas and I have a client that absolutely MUST have his video in h.264/.mov files. But I have been encoding to AVCHD in Vegas then using Quicktime Pro to make the h.264 MOV files for them. I haven’t run Squeeze for a few months.
