There appears a black horizontal line on the top and bottom of the frames (video & photo) while playing the timeline. Sometimes it goes away or shrinks or disappears. What is that?

Can you take a screenshot of the problem? Where are you seeing it (preview, final encode, TV, PC, Microwave Oven?)

This is often caused by using media (video or still images) that do not exactly match the project aspect ratio.

If you add a 3:4 or 3:2 aspect photo from a digital camera to a 16:9 widescreen project, you will get black bars at the sides.

If you add DVD media to an HD (or web format) project you’ll probably get black bars top and bottom.

You can crop the media slightly in Vegas to make it exactly fill the frame. Just click the pan/crop icon in the right-hand end of the event on your timeline. In the pan/crop window, right-click on the frame with the big F on it, and select Match Output Aspect. You’ll see that either the top/bottom or the sides get trimmed slightly to make the event fit into the project size.

You can also try the “Adjust source media to better match project settings” in the project properties, but this doesn’t adjust all media (I think it doesn’t adjust still images, only video).
