Let Windows check the system files. Go to start/run enter: “sfc /scannow”.
Also, run dxdiag.exe to make sure your DirectX is properly installed.
Video card: NewEgg has a shell-shocker (11/24 only) with a GeForce GTS 450 card for only $79 (after the dreaded rebate). 192 CUDA cores and 1Gb of RAM.

I rarely, almost never, let DVDA recompress already compressed media – it will result in a it on the quality.
When you ecnode your final output in Vegas (in the “Render As” menu) select MPEG as the type and use one of the DVDA templates. You also need to encode the audio as an .ac3 file – using the same root filename.
Drag the .mpg file into your DVDA Project Overview and the audio *should* load as well. (Though it won’t show up as media in the project overview).

VLC uses its own decoders, which is why it works with a wide variety of media files.

Ooh – a challenge.
Yes, I think it can be done. (The original was likely done with AE). There are three different effects there. The last one is the easiest using a combination of the Sony TV Simulator and color-corrector. The second one can probably be done with the color-corrector alone. The rainbow in the first needs more thought.
You’ll be doing a lot of keyframing and it will be tedious work, but I think it can be replicated.

If you are using a late-model nVidia/GeForce video card, the 285.79 Beta driver may fix some problems.
If you use the nVidia “auto scan”, it will likely report that you have the latest version.

You do have the latest released version, but the 285.79-Beta driver seems to fix a lot of problems in Vegas installations.

Download it, install it and run Vegas. check for your “Vegas Bug” and let us know your results. You can always roll-back the latest released driver.

No, that *really* is a Windows error. Vegas is in the title because that was the parent process that was running when the error occurred. Vegas error messages do tend to be more verbose.
Maybe the file already exists? Try it using a different filename. Is there enough room on the project disk *and* the %TEMP% folder to hold 2X the project size?

What goes black? The preview window or the whole screen? If it’s the Preview Window then your graphics card may be the issue. My older systems did that all the time during encoding.
I seriously doubt the processor is at fault. Most likely there is a driver problem.
