I’ve never used the capture program in Vegas. No particular reason except inertia. (Programs I used long before I started using Vegas 3). I use Scenalyzer for DV captures and HdvSplit for HDV captures.

Microsoft Security Essentials is probably your best solution for now. In all of he “tests” I have seen in the PC magazines, MSE is always one of the top performers.
How is a “cloud-based” database different from daily updates from the host server? If the program goes to the cloud every time it does a virus scan, then you will see a significant hit on productivity. If the program just checks the database version before a scan, it still has to “phone home”. If the program checks the cloud database once each day, how is that different?
Besides, when it comes to malware or viruses that insert themselves into a system file, who would know if this happens better than Microsoft.

August 1, 2012 at 5:07 pm in reply to: Vegas 11 Hangs on Initializing External MonitorsI have one workstation that does this every “first start” of the day. I know that it’s a driver issue but it is as simple as restarting Vegas and it works fine the rest of the day.

[Michael Birdsong] ” My processor maxes out and over heats, causing my computer to shut down. “
And this is Vegas’ problem, how?
Clean out the dust bunnies.
Add a supplemental fan.Vegas is extremely processor intensive and will push the core temperatures up to the edge. Which is one of the reasons that overclocking is never recommended for an editing workstation.
You *do* monitor your CPU temperature using the free program “coretemp”, don’t you?

July 31, 2012 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Space bar (stop/play button) not working sometimesIt has to do with “focus”. A Microsoft term for which window has the focus. You may have undocked some of your Vegas windows to spread across two monitors?
For the spacebar play/pause function work, the timeline window has to have the focus. The bar at the top of the window will be darker than the other windows title bars.

Why not use Filter Packages?
(OP – F/X and Filters are applied at the event level, the track level or the media level – but not at the same time. Well, I don’t see why you couldn’t, but your original question had me scratching my head).Just save the chain to a filter package, then simply apply it to the new track(s) like you would any filter.
Or did I not figure your question?

HDV is 4:2:0 colorspace. Probaly the worst for chromakey. Re-encoding to a format that uses different colorspace won’t add any color information that isn’t in the original.
There are third-party plug-ins that do a better job, such as Boris Continuum (BCC8).

July 21, 2012 at 2:17 am in reply to: How to changing several take names simultaneously? The event name is in the veg file. I can’t think of any way to easily change them. I don’t normally use takes anyway. I just find it so much easier to add new tracks instead of takes. I do use takes when recording multiple tracks of audio, but I just keep them as “Take 1, Take 2, etc…”

It doesn’t matter what you were doing when the error pops up. It’s a WINDOWS error.

Did you search the forum? “Low Memory” errors have been asked and answered several times. Most recently just three days ago.
