Vegas 11 Hangs on Initializing External Monitors
Posted by Rick Altizer on August 1, 2012 at 4:30 pmAll of a sudden my Vegas 11 Pro is hanging on “Initializing External Monitors.”
I’m running 64 bit current version. Has been running fine. No new programs or hardware added to system. I installed the 32 bit version and it hangs just the same.Any suggestions?

August 1, 2012 at 5:07 pmI have one workstation that does this every “first start” of the day. I know that it’s a driver issue but it is as simple as restarting Vegas and it works fine the rest of the day.

August 1, 2012 at 6:32 pmThe next time it hangs, open “Resource Monitor” from the Windows Start Menu.
In the Overview tab, are any of the items red?
Find the Vegas process (vegas110.exe) and right click on it to determine what driver or other process is hanging it up.

August 1, 2012 at 8:02 pmThank you SO MUCH for helping me out. It’s great to know there’s someone out there and I’m not in this all alone.
No items in red in overview tab.
When I right click Vegas110.exe I get these options:End Process
End Process Tree
Analyze Wait Chain
Suspend Process
Search OnlineWhen I select “Analyze Wait Chain” it shows the following with an arrow pointing down from fist line to second:
Vegas110.exe (PID:3812) Thread:4584
Vegas110.exe (PID:3812) Thread:3664Does that mean anything to you?

August 1, 2012 at 8:59 pmBefore it will let me end the 2nd process, I have to close out the “Vegas has stopeed working” window. As soon as I close out that window the program is closed so there’s nothing for me to end. Very frustrating.
I did go in to safe mode and was able to start the program. I couldn’t hear anything because there was no sound in safe mode. So that means there is some kind of conflict with windows. Perhaps a new update is conflicting. I might try a system restore to a later date.

August 1, 2012 at 9:35 pmJust deleted the program and re-installed and it STILL hangs.
Just noticed on Friday there was a major Windows upgrade on my computer. I’m going to turn off automatic updates and try to restore to before Friday.I’ll let you know.

August 1, 2012 at 9:41 pmI had the same problems that ended with reformatting the computer awhile back. SCS has just recently found a fix of which I was just informed. Kind of late for me, but I hope it will help you. This from a Tech at Sony Creative Software:
Thank you for writing back. Please reinstall the software and if it still hangs follow these instructions:Click on Start or the circle Windows flag on the bottom left hand corner and in the search field, type msconfig and hit Enter on your keyboard. In this new window, click on the Services tab and scroll down until you find a service called Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0.
Uncheck the box to the left of this service, then click Apply and OK.
You computer may request that you restart. Please do so and then open up Vegas.
If you still have a follow-up question on this particular incident, please feel free to update it. If you have a completely different question, please create a new incident.
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Um, that was in Windows XP.
But clearing the font and icon caches once in a while can help with other unrelated problems. Windows will just rebuild them as it needs them.

That should not affect the Resource Monitor.
