I’m at work, check the Vegas 9e, running same build. However, my mcmpegin.dll is different than yours. Thursday, June 18, 2009, 1:11:04 PM 465 KB (476,400 bytes)

I uploaded it to https://www.huecotanks.com/temp1/ , of course the date will now be today. I guess saving your old .dll and trying mine won’t hurt, but I don’t think it will fix anything.

Wow … I am happy but puzzled. I logged in right now to post that I was completely baffled and to ask the Cow Brain to jump in and help, then I saw your post that it had worked!

I hope it continues to work, but something strange is happening… if it fails again don’t give up.

Thanks for watching the vid.

There are lots of pros and cons regarding still cams like the NEX-5 that also shoot vid, vs video cams like the NX70 that also shoot stills. Sadly, there seems to be nothing that really does both well. (this is a source of extreme frustration for me). I guess I am doomed to lug two cameras everywhere I go.

However, some people like Sony’s new NEX-20, which tries to bridge the gap. Others claim it does a horrible job of both … I personally am not a big fan of shallow depth of field. Sure, our eyes have shallow DOF – but you can also choose to point your eyeball at something other than what is right in front of your face, and in less than 1/4 second, focus far or close. When a video is shot with “bokeh” the composer is FORCING you to look at what he chosen. I prefer freedom to look anywhere in the frame is see things in (more or less) clear focus. I know I am not in the majority with this opinion…

Go slow, read a lot. Don’t make a purchase in haste. I assume you are young, new stuff is coming out all the time. Practice editing. Read. Learn. Save your $$ and only when ready buy.

Right now, because audio is very important to me, I lean toward videocams. Although it has plenty of flaws, I just re-ordered a NX70 (this less than 2 weeks after sending one back!). Yes I am CraZY and conflicted… One reason is the firmware update that will fix some of the problems. The other is I just learned that it will output uncompressed 4:2:2 video on the HDMI port that can be consumed by the Atomos Ninja.

Hi;

Having not installed the Avid codec, I can only speculate. However, with Huffy, I initially did not see the Huffy option under Video For Windows (.avi) because I run Vegas x64, and the first Huffy I installed was x32. After installing the x64 version of Huffy, the option was there.

If your x versions match, I would expect to see it as an option under the .mov …

Sorry I can’t help more. I’m kind of leery of installing codecs, I thought long and hard before adding the Huffy.

Hi Nicolas;

I’d like to have a look at the settings you are using for the .mp4 render. In your first post, you wrote:
“…So i went and found settings for youtube (Here’s the link: > ” , but the link does not show up in Creative Cow.

Please take a snapshot of the Vegas “Render As” screen where you select the codec, and then also the Custom screens, both the video tab and the audio tab, and post them for us.

Below are examples of the default Vegas Sony AVC render – this will work for YT, even though it will produce a file that is large and not ideal for uploading. As a test, try those same settings and let us know if the rendered file has sound. Also, you mentioned that rendering with a different choice of codec worked; which one(s) have you tried that worked?

FYI Handbrake accepts the Huffy .avi files without complaint.

Have not had time to put a stopwatch to the processes, or compare the quality of Handbrake vs MainConcept in Vegas yet.

Brian, that is a beautiful vid, one of the best XF vids I’ve seen. Most XF vids seem smudged and boringly undersaturated. Did you boost the color in post, or tweak the camera?

I know that you can’t comment on the XF100 lens (man, I wish some XF owners would help out the way you have!) , but your focus seems very sharp from edge to edge.

I would love to know if the XF100’s low-light performance is better or worse than the NX70. The zoom range from f1.8 to 2.8 makes me think it is better …

Agonizing over the decision. If only the XF did not use those expensive CF cards I would be ready to pull the trigger … for the long-duration shots I routinely do it will cost me a minimum of $500.00 for cards …

Great tip, John.

I am paranoid, so I am constantly hitting ctrl-s ,and also saving as different versions. project-v1.veg, project-v2.veg, etc. Just tonight in the space of 4 hours I have 8 versions – I prefer this because sometimes I have to go back to something I did earlier.

Vegas 10e still crashes enough to make me skittish …
