So, how would you merge both components together? Create the opener in AE, and export as MP4? Is there the same variety of text effects for the lower third, or should that be an exported composition from AE as well?

Thanks for the input… I’m so new at this, and I dont’ know if there’s a “right” way to do it, or just what’s “right” for a specific project…

I think I figured it out… Since I have these paths on both layers operating as masks, it somehow gets in the way of copying/pasting… I tested this on a really basic comp. Without any masking, it works fine, but with masking (and a few edits to the path) the only thing pasting is the first version of the shape I made… Also selecting the Path sublayer of the Contents just gives me a path with no fill, stroke or effects…
Also, pasting the shape reverts to the basic shape with no transformations. I’d resized it in the first layer, and the pasted version went back to 100% no matter how often I copied… Weird.

I read that part of the user guide – it didn’t help. The problem is that I’ll copy the path from the first Shape layer, go to the other Shape layer’s contents, paste, and get nothing besides a new Path sublayer but no path…

I’ve tried copying and pasting into the Contents, and I get a Path sub-layer, but no path… I’ll check out your link…

Sometimes, I’ll be beating my head against the wall wondering why Adobe on my office PC is doing weird things, and then I turn off the Caps Lock… Just a thought…

Never mind. I found the Roto Bezier checkbox. I may someday discover it’s purpose… Sorry to waste everyone’s pixels…

I made that layer into its own .PSD file, that worked. Though, as Murphy would have it, the marketing manager wanted it removed… <sigh>

I usually just use Alt and drag, but then there’s the Step and Repeat command…
