I have the same problem. Sometimes, when I make changes in a nested sequence, it doesn’t show up in the final sequence. Even when I render it, nothing. So I have to delete all renders in the final sequence, then render again. This can take a lot of time. Any suggestions?

Are you able to import the avi files into a new FCP project? I’ve never had problems bringing .avi files into FCP.

Thanks for the advice. If there’s no quality difference between CBR and VBR at 7Mbps (or if CBR is actually better), then I’d just as soon go with CBR because of the faster encoding. I usually have plenty of extra space on my DVD’s, so file size is not an issue.

Also, keep in mind that the Mac Pro is limited in terms of the number of PCI Express lanes. If you bring up the expansion slot utility, you’ll see that there are only 4 possible configurations:
16,1,1,8 (slot 1 has 16 lanes of data, slot 2 has 1, slot 3 has 1, slot 4 has 8)
16,1,4,4;
8,8,1,8;
8,8,4,4.What this means is that only one of your graphics cards will have the full 16 lanes of data if you choose the first two configurations, and neither will have 16 lanes if you choose the last two. I’m not sure if your graphics performance would be degraded if you only have 8 lanes, but that’s something you should look into.

I have a Rocket Raid 2314 card, but I don’t use it in Raid 5 mode. Actually I just use JBOD mode. So I would be interested in hearing about other people’s experience, too.
The Arizona Mac Users Group (AMUG.org) did a test a few months ago, and I remember the results being fairly good.

Many knowlegeable users at the DVX User website, say that 1080 has about 20% more resolution than 720. But shoot 1080p24 or p30 because it’s much better than interlace. Shoot 720 if you need higher frame rates.
The camera converts the CCD data to 1080 first. Then it down converts to other sizes.

I thought Flash MX was capable of converting QT to flv’s. Why not use that?

If you really need to get the size down, you might want to consider reducing the frame rate. 24 or even as low as 15 fps doesn’t look all that bad over the internet. But I would say that 10MB for 5 minutes is about what you can expect.
