Fair enough – I misunderstood what you were asking for. This would be a very welcome improvement.

Hmmm – I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. You can for example select two connected clips on different “rows” that do not overlap and make them into a secondary storyline, so I think there might be some arbitrary limitation on connected clips that overlap vertically. If what you are suggesting were true, then FCPX has effectively implemented “tracks” but made them inaccessible to the user which would be ironic to say the least 😉

I think David’s comment is a very interesting one – and if you can think of scenarios where you need one secondary storyline to act like a primary one, then I’m sure there will be other editors who can conceive of the need for an unlimited number of storylines that act the same way. In a sense it’s odd that this isn’t already implemented – what’s so special about two as against ten or twenty or a hundred?

Does the notion of a “row” actually make sense of how the underlying architecture works? Does FCPX know that Connected Clips that happen not to overlap (and hence make an additional “row”) are in any way related? Isn’t the appearance of a “row” soemthing of an illusion in that the interconnection is all vertical rather than horizontal?
I’m not saying I disagree with what you’re asking for – I just wonder whether it doesn’t go against the grain of how FCPX is built …

I’m sure there’s a reason but I am wondering what kind of editing scenario would require you to make a secondary storyline comprised of clips that are a substantial distance apart.

No need to go messing with the blade tool. Just drag over the area where you want the music to be louder using the range tool (R) and then drag the audio keyframe overlay up till you get the loudness you want.

The Fade to Color Transition has controls for Midpoint, Hold and Color – select the transition and go the the Inspector to find them.

Put the whole folder on, e.g. in the case of the example I gave you put in the unzipped folder which will be called Adjustable Frame V3. As I said before put it on your User/Movies/Motion Templates/Effects folder (preferably make a new folder inside that called TKY Effects to differentiate it from the built-in ones but this is not strictly necessary).
When installing 3rd party “effects”, make sure you put Effects/Transitions/Generators in the appropriate folders.

Drag over the section of text you want to change (point size etc.) in the viewer and you will be able to affect just that portion.
