You can’t watch H.264 unrendered in FCP. The easiest solution is to use Compressor to transcode everything to Apple ProRes. And at the same time you can change the fps into 25.
So you export out of Compressor:
25 fps
1920 x 1080 Frame Size
Compressor: Apple ProResThere is always a quality loss changing frame rates. Compressor is certainly not great at it, but better software is expensive and processing-intense. Since part of your footage is shot in DV-Pal I guess the quality Compressor can offer is enough for this project.

This is how to reset FCP:
https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1846?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
But I have no idea if that affects Motion in any way or not. Maybe there are similar files in your Library that are motion specific. I am not sitting in front of FCP at the moment so I can’t test it.

Here you can download some RED footage. There are plenty of resources on the net, just google them.

June 13, 2013 at 9:05 am in reply to: FCP Project Framerate Question! Project in 24frames, Timelapses in 30framesI did a lot of projects with multiple frame rates, and I never had any trouble. You wrote that some of your files are “Apple Motion”. Do you mean by that, that you put Motion projects in your timeline? If you did so, that causes the crashes, since this procedure is highly unstable in most cases – the frame rate has probably nothing to do with it.
Export your Motion projects as QT and use these in FCP. It takes longer, but your system should run way more stable that way.

I think books are still great when it comes to learning the fundamentals.
My favourite is the Avid Learning Series – a total of 5 (expensive) books. This is volume 1:

If you worked on the project file for a long time it is possible that FCP gathered some unnecessary data trash in the project file. (At least I had this a few times).
Create a new project and copy and paste everything in the browser-window from the old project into the new one.
Check if that reduced the file size…Head of Postproduction

Do you just want to burn a AVI or MOV file on a DVD or do you want to make a Video-DVD (one that plays in a DVD player)?

You still have both keyframes selected. Click on one of them again – the other keyframe should turn grey.
Now you only apply changes to the pink one.Head of Postproduction

No problem. Just change the sequence settings as you did before.
The reason why the clips stay small is that they have a resize-filter on them. (Gets automatically applied if you cut footage in a timeline with a different resolution)
Highlight all your clips and right click on them. Select “Remove Filters” from the pop-up menu. Remove the resize filter and done!Head of Postproduction
