Obviously to keep the quality you need to err on the side of caution. I output 1 hour long broadcast projects via the quick time codec and they come out at 50GB!

One that you might want to try is the (free to download) avid DNxHD codec. Vegas will pick it up (after a re-boot) and you’ll find it in the quicktime render settings. It is still a .mov file but you can adjust the Mbps to something like 35 which would probably be good enough for blu-ray and may come out a little smaller than 30 gigs.

Yes I realise that, Mike, but my point is that to properly assess an update you must do a full project – perhaps a couple of days work over the course of a week or so.

If during that time I feel the upgrade is worth the extra money I will buy it. If not I won’t.

However I still want to be able to finish the project and give it to the customer whatever my decision. I didn’t buy VP8 or 9 as it didn’t run as well on the PC I had back then but tested them both.

I won’t risk doing a whole project on VP12 in case I feel the upgrade is not that useful to me in which case I would have to do the whole thing again on VP11.

Why, Sony? – If a scum-bag pirate wants a free copy he’ll find a way. It’s the legitimate users who you are alienating.

I have been using Vegas since version 7. I have assessed every upgrade by doing a full paid project on it. I Upgraded to 8, 10 and 11 in this way. I have today started a project on v12 but have just found out I won’t be able to use the final version as it is watermaked?!

Sorry, Sony I’ll just be sticking with v11, I reckon.

Are you running the 64 bit version of Vegas 10? Is this a new problem?

As an experiment it might be worth trying to change your render settings. I run a high end 32bit machine with 32 bit Vegas and rarely have issues since ugrading from 9 to 10

I must agree with JerryW this does sometimes happen, even when you have calculated the bitrate.

It seems to happen when one file size is large ie the main file is over about 3 gigs. (I have never had this problem with a showreel containing several smaller clips for example) I sometimes find you can fix it be re-rendering the file a calling it something different then deletating the original media. DVDA then asks for a replacement location for the media and magically it has dropped back to the correct (or at least a smaller) size without losing the chapter marker info.

Any more suggestions would be useful though. I am also using DVDA version 4.

Just want to be clear. You are clicking on Insert… text media? Does it appear in the middle of the screen? If you just drag it into your tabbed media box it will open up there next time you use it.
