Thanks for the response Walter. I’m actually comparing the two movie files in quicktime. This is where the differences are showing. And yes, I’m using snow leopard and AE 9.0.2.

The command I’m using to invoke the render is…

    ‘/Applications/Adobe After Effects CS4/aerender’ -project /Volumes/folders/folder/project.aep

I was also under the impression that aerender read directly from the aftereffects file and render queue keeping all settings as normal.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated…

Thanks Dave, but no, the problem occurs on shadows casted by and on images, vector and otherwise as well as sub comps both 3D and otherwise. It’s kind of an artefact of the shadow gradient that causes the scan lines.

And yes, I’ve found a few more discussion on here since posting this (always the way!) and none of them seem to get to the bottom of the issue.

Found this link which shows a good example of the problem on a post (hope he doesn’t mind):

If it’s a bug, does anyone what causes it? In fact if anyone knows anything we don’t, then please let us know!

Yeah, I tried it, but the same message comes up and an empty folder appears in the project window. I’ve actually re done the work now but if anyone out there knows what it might be it would be useful to know for future refernece.

    Thanks for the response,

Thanks guys, I think I’ll take the pre-compose option as I’m still building the scenes at the moment and this allows me to go back and edit etc.

Cheers and god praise the cow,

I’m using cameras to animate around the second shot/composition as well though, as far as I’m aware cameras don’t carry through nested comps in AE. Also, the track matte (the handshake) I’m using exists in 3D space and so dosen’t seem to work as a matte, is that correct or am I missing something?
