If you have one or two Lacie drives could be things are working well for you. However, we have 20+ Lacie drives and the do fail. Only ONE internal drive has failed in all of our Macs (various brands) in six years. The internal drives are powered up for much longer periods of time too. Probably experienced six Lacie failures in that same time. Even had an out of box bad 500GB drive recently. Testing drives for short periods of time is not a real world test. When the Lacie drives work they are great, when they fail it stinks:-)

You may make copies of music in the following circumstances:

You may make an emergency copy for performance in order to replace a purchased copy.
You can take excerpts for academic purposes other than performance. It must be less than a performance section, such as an aria or movement, and never more than 10% of the whole.
You may make a single copy of performances for evaluation purposes
You may make a single copy of a sound recording for aural exercises or examination.
You may NOT create music anthologies
You may NOT copy consumables, such a music theory workbooks

Educators can use their own multimedia works in the following situations:
face-to-face teaching situations

assign them to students for self-study

in peer workshops and conferences

in a professional portfolio

for a distance study course provided it is over a secure network and there are security procedures to protect it from being copied.

You can use them for two years before having to get copyright permission for any works you used. They may not be copied and distributed for use by other teachers without obtaining copyright permissions. Even if distributed free of charge, it steps out of the boundaries of Fair Use.

Students can perform multimedia works for the class in which they were created. They can keep them in their portfolios forever.

QuickTime is a better tool IMHO and to be honest we just like it better. The Windows Media 9+ codec is awesome. However, Windows Media will not allow the user to scrub the video. If I had it my way the world would be using DivX.

Pro and progressive download. Slower DSL (368 or so) may have to wait a bit for QT to cache the data. We have tested many data rates for the football games. The current data rate is necessary for the action, poorly lit stadiums and grass. We have also compressed the games using h.264, which is much better at the same data rate IMHO. We will start to offer the h.264 files in the near future once QT 7 has had a chance to reach more users.

QT7, OS 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5 are not a good combination. If you need to revert QT I have saved the file.
