I’ve used it…and many MANY other products Digital Rebellion puts out. I am even friends with the guy who makes them. Yes, it’s good. It gets all of the files that are scattered throughout your system. And yes, separate options for FCX and FCP 7.

There are presets in COMPRESSOR for ProRes. Use those. Just ProRes 422 will do. It’s under the APPLE CODECS, but you can also search for the codecs in the little search bar at the top of the codec list.

Yes, ProRes. That’s the best codec for this.

Well, you’ve encoded to the highest quality ProRes there is…very high data rate. What are you playing these files from? You’ll need a fast 2-4 drive RAID array for that quality…connected via Thunderbolt 2 at least. Single drives can’t handle this high a data rate file…and it’ll be too much for USB3

The only think I can think of is the OS version. The last version of the Operating System that FULLY supported FCP 7 (FCS 3) is 10.6.8. Every update past that means going further and further from full support, and possibly features not working. by 10.9.5, Compressor and Motion, bundled in FCS 3…stopped working. Color was highly unstable. By 10.10, Color stopped working, and DVD studio pro as well. 10.11…I’m sure many features might be affected.
You can try to trash the FCP PReferences (look for PREFERENCE MANAGER by DIgital Rebellion…it’s free) and see if that fixes it. If not…might be an OS support issue.

Why not? It’s the standard for internet and broadcast. 24 straight up is pretty much only for theater projection. Not being snarky, genuinely curious.

You don’t mention what GPU (Graphics card) are in these machines. Premiere really does leverage the GPU to help things go smoother. CUDA…the “Mercury Engine.” Those are the terms used when Premiere taps into the GPU to help with editing.
So yeah, what GPU do you have? And you might do good to get a better one.

Yes. The processors are being taxed. When they are working, and working hard, they get hot. Exporting footage…that makes the processors work hard. Playing unrendered footage…depending on what that footage is, meaning it might be H.264 or some other highly compressed camera format…that will peg the processors, and then they get hot. When you render the footage, that hits the processors, and they get hot.

I would take that to mean one frame. 1:00 is one second. Hmmm…but thirty second spots are called :30 spots.
