EDLs are VERY VERY VERY VERY old things. I mean, OLD old. Designed for linear tape bays, and 4 channels of audio ws the max for those. Did I mention OLD? AAF and XML are the newer options that offer many more tracks of audio. ANy reason you are using an EDL instead of those?

May 13, 2019 at 2:54 am in reply to: Re-linking to source material and different frame ratesIf you brought in temp footage, say archival that is 29.97fps with burn in code….but the master footage is 23.98. OR…if your camera masters are 23.98 but for some reason converted to 29.97 in an offline codec…you can’t relink. You need to over cut by eye.
You can’t link footage to footage with a different frame rate.

I have a machine with this on it still. I’ll do it for $5 a sequence. Contact me at comeback at mac dot com
NOTE: Any plugins or FCP specific effects will not transfer. ONly straight cuts and dissolves. NESTING will cause the sequences to fail export. And there have been times that sequences just won’t convert. I’ll only charge for successful exports (and test imports).

It’s on the other computer’s main OS drive, in the DOCUMENTS folder. If you take the media drive to another computer, the project doesn’t come with it. You need to copy it from the documents folder of your computer, to the other drive, and then put it in the AVID PROJECTS folder in the documents folder of the other computer.

But yes, ANY solution means getting FCP Legacy installed on a computer with a compatible OS, so you can open it and export what needs to be export.

April 30, 2019 at 7:28 pm in reply to: Exporting .mov with a MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bit[Bouke Vahl] “C’mon, give the guy a break.
He HAS am .mov, and needs to go to MXF.
It’s semantics.”No…that’s not what it is. And it isn’t HIM we are riding, it’s the CLIENT.
“I am delivering files to a company in NY and they are asking for .mov files with an MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bit. ”
The COMPANY who is doing the asking is the one that needs to provide better information….have a better tech person who understands this stuff.

April 30, 2019 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Exporting .mov with a MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bitJohn is spot on. MOV and MXF are containers…one a jar, one a can. They are asking for a can in a jar, but with no thing inside. XDCAM? ProRes? DNxHD? DNxHR? Those are codecs. You can deliver a ProRes MXF, or ProRes MOV…but not a MOV MXF file.

April 30, 2019 at 5:25 pm in reply to: AVID MC Minimum Required GPU Memory – stupid question???I had an older MacBook Pro with the same GPU. It’ll work fine. Transcoding to offline res media…the typical Avid workflow, works great. It’s a tad sluggish if you try to work with AMA links to camera masters…so just transcode and you’ll be golden.
