Exporting .mov with a MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bit
Posted by Maurice Diaz on April 29, 2019 at 10:54 pmHello, Maurice here,
I am delivering files to a company in NY and they are asking for .mov files with an MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bit.
Question 1: How do I export an mov file wrapped in MXF using Premiere CC?
Question 2: I understand the standard for audio in video is 48KHz/16bit. Why would they want 8bit? When I export the video with the audio at 8bit it has a lot of hissing.
Any help is welcomed,
thanks.

April 30, 2019 at 3:50 amWhat are the EXACT delivery specs because “mov in an MXF” means nothing. If those are the specs you got it seems that they probably don’t know what they’re doing.

April 30, 2019 at 9:37 amI suspect the 8 bit is color depth, not audio bit depth.
But I agree with Tero, if no codec is given it’s guessing.

This is insane. Mov (Quicktime) and MXF are two different types of containers. Many codecs can be wrapped as both Mov or MXF.
Deliver them a beverage. Put it in a bottle and wrap that in a can.
And they still haven’t told you what they want to drink. -

April 30, 2019 at 2:54 pmI am still waiting for more specifics from them, but I agree with you. The specs they gave me are very vague, hence me asking here. I have to assume that the 8bit is either a typo or it refers to color depth.
Thank you for your help.

April 30, 2019 at 6:32 pmJohn is spot on. MOV and MXF are containers…one a jar, one a can. They are asking for a can in a jar, but with no thing inside. XDCAM? ProRes? DNxHD? DNxHR? Those are codecs. You can deliver a ProRes MXF, or ProRes MOV…but not a MOV MXF file.

“I am delivering files to a company in NY and they are asking for .mov files with an MXF wrapper with audio 48KHz/8bit. ”
The COMPANY who is doing the asking is the one that needs to provide better information….have a better tech person who understands this stuff.

April 30, 2019 at 7:32 pmThank you guys. I have now another piece of the puzzle. For codec I can deliver either ProRes 422 or DNx145.
I use Premiere on a Mac. When I go to export I can find tons of DNx flavors, but not at 145 megabits per second. So, if go with Quicktime and ProRes 422 I will end up with mov files, not MXF files.
I just don’t understand why wrap a wrap in a wrap.
Their concern is that the EVS they use is very particular.
This client’s comunication skills are badly lacking. I’m starting to believe that all this is nothing but bad grammar.

April 30, 2019 at 7:41 pmEVS is a HUGE pain.
It does accept QT, but only if the Reelname is omitted. (I have a custom version of QTchange just for EVS…)Please, post the EXACT text (copy/paste) of the clients request.
(And, 8 bits ProRes does not exists, all flavours are at least 10 bits.)

April 30, 2019 at 7:51 pmExact request from client:
* Clips can be imported into the X File3 on the EVS.
* .MOV files with an MXF wrapper are acceptable with audio 48KHz/8bit
* CODEC must be either AVID DNx145.mxf or ProRes 422. It cannot play H264 files.
* Frame rate must be 59.94 – not 60 or 29.97 not 30. EVS is very particularThat’s verbetim.
Thanks
