I’ve used the set in another NLE. Works fine for what they are…color correction. Render times VASTLY improved over version 1.
Depends what you need it for. Good to get a unique look, fast.

I personally would never do this. I would never use a DVD quality image as master footage.
I never found the need to back up tapes. Just put the masters on a shelf for later. In a nice dry cool place.
You should she the tape vaults at production companies. HUGE. Not one would consider a DVD backup as a viable option.

Nattress stands out as it will convert 30i video to 24p rather well…better than anything else out there. Plus it has film look presets.
Magic Bullet Editors are color correction looks only. The larger magic Bullet package does the conversion, but it is pricier and slower, and you get about the same results.
Nattress is the best thing going. Used for the Superbowl and the World Series…BOTH HD shows.

You are still working with an HD signal…DVCPRO HD. That signal cannot be output thru a DV (a SD device) and routed to a monitor. The only way to monitor that footage and that timeline is to route thru a 1200HD deck, or route thru a capture card and HD monitor.
To output that as DV, you need to drop it into a DV sequence and render…THEN output.
If your footage in the sequence is squeezed, it means that your project does have the ANAMORPHIC box checked.

Can can’t just “magically” fix things and make the levels OK my slapping on a filter. Oh my, no no no.
You need two things:
1) An editor skilled with onlining a show, and setting it up for broadcast specs. If you want to do this, you need to get training. Then you adjust each shot…shot my shot…by using the 3-way color corrector or other tools.
2) An EXTERNAL waveform/vectorscope. The built in one is not good for this. Recently it was discovered that the scopes don’t read any video OUTSIDE picture safe. THAT IS MAJOR.Editing for Broadcast is big….and being properly trained is a big necessity. There is no filter that will “make it good” and ready for broadcast. It may help, but you need lots more.

DO you own a lot of Mac software? Do you own a current version of FCP? If you own a lots of Mac software, get a current model, as it is DARN possible it won’t work on the intel macs.
Plus, there is no keeping up with the Joneses. You buy a computer now, 6 months later, new one. And you can wait…and wait…and wait for the Mac intel PB and…who knows when it will come. Sure, it might be ANNOUNCED Jan. 11…but when will it ship.
My motto is buy it when you need it. If you need it now, get it now. If you can wait…wait.

Final Cut 5 has a multicam feature. You could group them in that…OR…add them into a timeline and resize them and move them so that you can see both (the poor man’s multicam).
