mpeg-2 plays in quicktime but will no sound in FCP
I can import the file and play in FCP but no sound. There is no separate sound file, this must be possible as it play in quicktime but what kind of file is it that can be imported into FCP without sound?

You can’t edit mpgs in FCP directly. You need to de-mux them first with something like MPEG Streamclip. Found at versiontracker.com
