December 19, 2011 at 3:39 am in reply to: Converting 24fps animated PNG sequence into 30pThanks Bouke, Dave and Chris. Much appreciated.
I have asked the animator to just re-render it, as you suggest. Am I right in assuming that any of the other options (converting in QT or AE) won’t be the same as getting the sequence at the correct frame rate?
Fingers-crossed, he will get it done. Obviously, it’s his responsibility to fix – but unfortunately he has already been paid and is a freelancer with only one machine, so I expect he’ll be reluctant to tie it up with re-rendering.

September 24, 2010 at 10:53 pm in reply to: Are these still useful? ADVC-100 and JVC Monitor…I had put both items up for sale… no interest on the monitor, but lots on the converter (so Mark is right). Anyhow, thanks for comments. I will sell the converter and perhaps hold onto the monitor unless I get a decent offer.

Hi David,
Another option would be to just get a pair of AV40s which are more similar to the Edirols I had. If I can only get unbalanced audio for the time being, is there going to be a great benefit of going with the BX5As over the AV40s?
If there’s not much difference, I would save a fair amount, and then could upgrade the speakers when I get a video i/o card.
Thanks,

I am still thinking to go with the BX5As over the KRKs… they are a bit cheaper. I actually called the music store this morning. I wanted to know what the best way to connect them would be (I imagine the same would apply to the KRKs). She had said I could get a cable that mini-headphone (1/8) and splits out to the 1/4″ on the speakers? She said one problem, however, can be that it is difficult to control the volume. Is that an issue? Is there a better way to connect them to the computer? I’m connecting them to the Mac Pro directing… Cheers!

Thanks for all the feedback…
I notice no one has commented on using one of the various USB adapter out there (rather than a USB mic). Does anyone have any thoughts on USB adapters like the X2U? How would a regular mic connected by a USB adapter like this be versus a USB mic like the AT-2020 USB?
If I used an adapter, I could go with one of the MXL mics. I did notice on the Canadian MXL site, there was no MXL 2003 – is that a discontinued model / has it been replaced?
Jordan (or rather Wolf) – I will look into the items you mentioned.
Let me add another quirk into the mix. My girlfriend would like to do some rough vocals using the mic. So ideally I’d like something that sounds decent for singing as well as v/o. Not sure if there would be any difference. For that purpose I’d probably also want to get a mic stand.

Thanks for the input. I think I’ll pickup the BX5As tomorrow. They also are the most readily available here, which makes things easy. Cheers!

July 22, 2009 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Caldigit VR vs. HD Element… and options for backup with VRThanks Shane. Good advice. I wasn’t familiar with Carbon Copy Cloner – looks great. So if I get a 2 TB VR or G-Raid3 and a 1 TB internal SATA, I can just backup to that until it reaches capacity?
I suppose the other alternative to a VR or G-Raid would be internal storage – Shane, what are your thoughts on internal storage vs an external two drive solution? I read your blog btw comparing those two products… very interesting.
Cheers!

This looks like a good option for the client viewing it remotely. Does the other party need to be on a Mac?
In any case, most likely I will be meeting with the client in person at their office – so I will want to have something there to show them. I guess it’s a matter of outputting a given sequences (or specific clips) and using my PC… or getting a Macbook Pro. Has anyone worked with a corporate client doing the former… just showing them edited versions rather than having the client come to the edit suite? How was that worked? I’d be curious to hear about anyone else’s experience.
Many thanks.

Hi Ray. I’m still trying to decide on storage – whether to go with a RAID 0 option like a G-RAID or Caldigit VR, or a RAID 5 option like a Caldigit HD Element. With the former, it would have the benefit of being transportable. The difficulty is I won’t have a Mac at the other end. Almost all the companies I’ve worked with are all PC. So to do that, I’d also need to bring a MBP myself, which I can’t afford if I go with the Mac Pro…
