October 22, 2013 at 8:50 pm in reply to: Installed GTX580 first now have GT120 but Resolve won’t use itYou’d think that’d work…I tried that yesterday to no affect and that’s why I wrote the post. But, before i wrote a “no BLEEP Sherlock” response, I just tried it again…and I’ll be a monkey’s uncle if it wasn’t working. All I did was started the machine that’s been off since yesterday and it worked. Mindnumbingly odd..
So, thank you for the obvious voodoo, it worked in grand style.

July 18, 2011 at 11:03 pm in reply to: monitors for color correcting on FCP 7 HDHi Chris,
I typically don’t do this, but you should call Flanders Scientific and talk to Bram..why? Because you’re making a suggestion that you can’t deliver a “pre-calibrated” monitor which Flanders Scientific does. How, i don’t know the technical details…but since you made the assumption, maybe you would like to really know….then you can correct me if i’m wrong and i’ll thank you 🙂Shane

Kim, just curious, what is a typical day rate for a colorist where you live?

July 13, 2011 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Apple LED cinema display as Grading monitorCheck this article out, good info on the color response of monitors (including the Apple LED).
https://www.anandtech.com/show/3946/apple-27inch-led-cinema-display-review/3
If you want it to be a true reflection of what the average person will see, I believe you should run the new monitor from the gui video card as that’s how the average person will be viewing on their system. Or pipe it out to a color critical monitor with a LUT representing sRGB.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the color space of what comes from your Gui card and the HD-SDI are not equivalent (sRGB vs Rec709 for HD or Rec601 for SD)…

July 13, 2011 at 9:48 pm in reply to: DaVinci Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide, December 2010Luc,
I’m currently spec’ing out the system…haven’t committed the $$ to it yet, but i’m leaning toward:
12 core 2.66
Gt120 gui
gtx285 gpu
•later adding cubix plus an additional gtx285 then changing the Gui to an ATI 5870.Shane

July 13, 2011 at 4:16 am in reply to: Resolve 8 vs. Color on MBP, Resolve training, & video outputNo answer, more of a question I’ve not seen it mentioned here. What’s the speed of the hard drive? If it’s a 5400 rpm vs 7200 vs solid state, could that be a factor?

February 13, 2011 at 1:21 am in reply to: DaVinci Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide, December 2010it seems that Resolve needs “only one” Cuda enabled card.
So in theory… if i ran a ATI 5870 as my graphical interface and a GTX 285 as my “Cuda” card that would be faster (for other programs such as Apple Color) than GT120 and GTX 285 combo ….obviously this requires the Cubix PCI expansion solution.
Or does the Cubix require one of the power cables that the 5870 eats up?
