If we assume there are system more stable than ours, what do we have in common?

Geforce PCIe Video cards – anyone tried anything else? I’ll swap in an ATI if I get a chance today.
Onboard SATA raid – what speeds? Anyone using external storage? I’m supspicious it might be a bug that is affected by drive throughput. I moved my job to a single IDE and the render always crashed quicker than on a 3 drive interal SATA raid.

I’m using a Decklink HD Pro single link on a Tyan s2895 with a single AMD270 so my problems may not be the same as those using Decklink PCIe on an Asus board.

I’m using Decklink HD Pro 4:2:2 and version 5.1.2 was the last “stable” driver for me. With drivers 5.2 and on something changed and any significant rendering crashes premiere.

5.2 is the version that first supported PCIe….and introduced instability for my setup.

I wish they would publish setup specs so that we knew what the “approved systems” consisted of re: bios versions, graphics card drivers, etc. etc. I waste to much time trying to track down the problem at my end when BM must have a spec list that includes such details.

Sounds worth a try. The Y cable doubles as the composite out.

Is it a card with analog out? If so there is a toggle for composite or YUV out in Control Panel/Decklink. Is that it?

Check your desktop properties and be sure the decklink monitor is enabled?

Do the Decklink programs work? Does Premiere work in capture? Tell us more about your setup.

Yes the serious error message is a constant companion for timeline renders.

Don’t you find it gets that addreneline running like “live TV” did. Will I lose anything when it crashes? Will it recognize the renders it has done? Will I have to start all over?

But seriously…

What do we have in common with the reneder problems? Maybe we can help track this thorn down. What have people tried? Has anyone tried running SP1 instead of SP2? Turning off screensavers or FX in desktop settings? What virtual memory size? on what drives? I’m trying to move a system back to SP1 next week to see if that helps.

BLACK-MAGIC – any chance of sharing setup specifics on your test system(s)?

I have four suites with 2 different BM cards and 2 different Motherboards and the “serious error” shows up in all 4 systems if you render anything that takes over a five minutes or so in Premiere. The systems usually keep rendering till they are done and you can save manually before clicking on the “OK” and crashing.

Here are some of my notes

WinXP SP2 with all updates
I’ve tried with and without the Microsoft SP2 dual processor hotfix for Premiere…
Adobe Premiere 1.5
Adobe Premiere patch to 1.51
MPEG 1.1 update from Mainconcept (I’ve tried with and without)
Quicktime 6.5 and 7.03 (doesn’t seem to matter)
DirectX 9.0c
BlackMagic 5.1 and on… I think all versions exhibit the problem but can’t be sure.
Trend Micro – I’ve diabled this from time to time and it doesn’t seem to matter.

No one else has offered any suggestions so I will, but I’m guessing…

1) If you Decklink card is set to feed black to your deck during capture you lose the ability to monitor video, maybe audio to?

2) Try setting Premiere to use the computer sound card for audio playback and see if that is a work around.

I think you mean the AJ-YAD255 board. I noticed B&H sell it. I’m trying to find out the same question for one of our 250s. I know the 250 we use for firewire has a AJ-YAD250. I think the deck firmware has to be updated to a certain version if you have an early version of the deck.

And we also use Decklink cards. It will do a fine job of monitoring. They have some issues mixing NTSC DV and uncompressed footage but if you are staying in DV you will find no difference in workflow.

We use the 250 (among others) with the firewire card and Adobe Premiere. The signal out is fine. The only problem we’ve encountered is recapturing as the deck cues so fast it overshoots the in/out points. DV takes so little space I tend to capture entire tapes so it hasn’t been an issue.
