It sounds like the image files are too big. What resolution are they? You don’t really need more than 100 dpi. (video is 72) If they are, you could open them with photoshop and resize them to 100 dpi or even 72. You can then re-associate in FCP, but you may have to adjust your keyframes if you have some. This may sound like a huge hassle but it’s probably the reason why it keeps crashing. Hope this helps,

I would export the HDV timeline and then lay it onto a DV timeline and export again. That is what I do most of the time because I like to have a timeline for each. I like to keep my HD timeline in tact too. Plus, you will have problems because of the aspect ratio. If you are not careful, your exports aspect ratio will be off.
The other was is to export using quicktime conversion and find a DV preset (there is one for DVD i think) and make it letterbox to keep aspect ratio. It’s under the options. Hope this helps!

This should place the video on the timeline.
Hope this helps,

I would buy a NEW Mac through ProMax.

They can get you a perfect system for your budget. They have the RAID drives and XSERVE if you need it. I have pruchased several systems from them and they are very helpful. The customer support is top notch as well.
Let me know if you ever need an off-sight editor to help cut your training videos. Did you know that editing can be done remotely now? You can even watch the screen as the footage is edited.

It sounds like you hit the shortcut that turned on the Wireframe view only mode. Under View, select “Image+Wireframe”
I hope this helps.

Why can’t you just use google calendar? I love it and use it as my production calendar.

no… just go to the scratch folder for whatever project you are going to move… if you dont know what the scratch folder is, open the project with footage that you want to move and hit (shift+Q) this will open the window that you select your scratch folder in. If you have never changed this, it’s probably set to your Documents folder in Final Cut Pro Documents. (that is the default) If you have changed it for that project, you will be able to see where the folder is that contains your video and audio scratch files. Go to that folder on your hardrive and find the folders relating to that project under the “Capture Scratch” foler and select and move them to your external HD. My recommendation is to always set a NEW folder for each project that you work on so that ALL the scratch files for each project are in ONE folder that can be easily backed up or moved. This will save you time having to sort through the files. Hope this helps,
SethIf you have a project that you are no longer working on, you can use the media manager to create a duplicate of the files that you used in the project and back them up so that you can discard all the footage that is taking up hardrive space. This can be found under File/Media Manager. Be sure to select which sequence you want to backup before selecting the feature.

It’s easy to move files around… you can always re-associate them. It sounds like Michael may be on to something… how much space is on your internal HD? I would transfer some old project footage to an external HD… you only have to move the capture scratch if you want. When you open that project with the moved footage, it will ask you to re-associate the video files. It can search and even do it for you automatically, assuming that you gave your files unique filenames. I have done it many times with no problems. I hope your processor is not messed up, cause that is no fun! Do you have the Apple Care?

I’m not anyone does read manuals anymore. 🙂
You can also turn off the audio before you place the video on the timeline. Just click the A1 and A2 tabs on the far left of the timeline before you place the video in the timeline (F10). Hope you got this covered.
