Im still new to the mac sorry if this is a totally stupid question.

Ive got some footage in HDV that Ive been asked to put on to dv what the best way of doing this?

do I just change the sequence settings from HDV to dv and play it out to tape or do I export from the time line from hdv to dv and then re import or am I best to export as HDV and then use compressor?

    thanks for any help.

I would export the HDV timeline and then lay it onto a DV timeline and export again. That is what I do most of the time because I like to have a timeline for each. I like to keep my HD timeline in tact too. Plus, you will have problems because of the aspect ratio. If you are not careful, your exports aspect ratio will be off.

The other was is to export using quicktime conversion and find a DV preset (there is one for DVD i think) and make it letterbox to keep aspect ratio. It’s under the options. Hope this helps!

I would not make it letterbox, made the DV anamorphic, which will keep it 16:9, if you want to letterbox that you can always to that after the fact.
