Good point. I forgot to mention those… they are invaluable.

I just finished looking at the site and price. For the money, invest in the Total Training vids. Less money, just as much if not more information and you will always have them as a reference (as opposed to relying upon your memory of what was taught that day). My two cents…

    Hey MT,

I am also in Indy and use AE and Combustion extensively. I am always learning as this program is so powerful. Perhaps there is an opportunity to not only learn from each other but start a Users Group too. I have been using AE for one year now and love the program. Let me know your thoughts or email me at seth@foundryvideo.com

I took Chris’ advice and played around with it. I didn’t use a camera and I didn’t practice on footage. Instead I just used a PSD image of a person I had in my files. I took me a couple of tries but once I got the hang of it I know now how to apply it to video or any other footage. I guess my best advice is to practice a few times but Chris’ explanation is really extensive.

    Thanks Chris.

Dude! You rock! This was perfect and easy. I really appreciate the time you took to explain this. This was very helpful and worked well. Again, thanks.

    Chris,

I use 3D Stroke a lot but haven’t ever tried to have it encircle a person or object. I would like to and am wanting to try. Therefore, can you can explain what you mean by “Clipping Planes.” I have never heard of this before. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am using a large amount of PNGs that I created in After Effects for my lower thirds (Yes, I know I can create lowers in V5 but it is easier in AE).

Are you saying that I need to go to TOOLS —> PREFERENCES —-> VIDEO —>RAM and setting that to 0%? Sorry, I am just trying to clarify this so that I can finally get this show rendered, previewed and cleaned up. Thanks again.

    Jeff,

Thanks for the information. I tried it and it looked great! I kept trying to use the “roughen edges” effect under sketch or stylize (I forget which one) but the noise looked great. Thanks again.

July 11, 2005 at 4:09 pm in reply to: Interlaced video or DV compression?

    Hey there,

I shoot entirely in DV and have this problem frequently. I spent the money for an AE/Combustion Plug-In called Fields Kit from RE:Vision Effects.

    http://www.revisionfx.com

I know it is an extra step. But, when creating a video for broadcast or regular viewing this plug makes all the difference in the world for me. I recently shot this girl riding a ATV and she would ride up a hill and come flying by the camera. Initially, this shot looked like crap until I used Fields Kit. Once applied I was able to use it to achieve some great rotoscoping work.

I have not tried using Fields Kit with PP 1.5 since I clean everything up in AE & Combustion before putting to PP. I hope that helps.
