i know how to make the streak of light or glow

but how can it frm the back to the front ..
even if i break … the strak layer,,, howo to get teh continuity??

Use 3D stroke. Break into it into 2 layers. Use the clipping planes in 3D stroke to make what should be in front on one layer, then what should be in back on the other. Then just put your statue between those layers in the AE layer stack.

    Chris,

I use 3D Stroke a lot but haven’t ever tried to have it encircle a person or object. I would like to and am wanting to try. Therefore, can you can explain what you mean by “Clipping Planes.” I have never heard of this before. Thanks.

    Sure,

In 3D stroke under the camera section there are Z clipping planes. So imagine you have a person’s head on a layer. Let’s pretend it’s an Earthlink commercial where you want an orbit to loop around their head.

First do a rough roto of the person’s head. It doesn’t need to be great since it’s just comping back on itself.

So here are our elements: 1. The original film plate of someone standing talking to someone. 2. The duplicate of this where you masked the persons head so it’s isolated. 3. You’ve created a 3d stroke in a circle and angled the stroke a bit so it looks like an elliptical orbit path.

Well the prob is that if you put the 3D stroke layer on top of the stack, it doesn’t look like it’s orbiting the head, if it’s between the head layer and the BG layer then you have the same problem but now behind the person.

So, wouldn’t it be cool if you could split the 3d orbit by it’s depth into 2 layers? So that the near part of the stroke can go on a layer on top of the head layer and the behind part of the stroke can go below the head layer.

In 3D stroke under the camera section there is Z clip Front and Z clip Back. Duplicate the entire layer that the 3D stroke, circle mask, and solid sit on. But one copy above the head layer and one copy below the head layer. Turn off the below head layer. Now go under the 3D stroke parameters to Z Clip Back and decrease the number quite a bit until you see the back half of the orbit circle disappear. Now remember this number

Turn off that layer and go to the other layer and set the Z clip front to that number and the front of the circle should disappear.

Now turn on both layers. Now the circle should look like it’s looped around the head.

    Thanks Chris.

Dude! You rock! This was perfect and easy. I really appreciate the time you took to explain this. This was very helpful and worked well. Again, thanks.

Not butt-kissing just simple midwest sincerity.

I took Chris’ advice and played around with it. I didn’t use a camera and I didn’t practice on footage. Instead I just used a PSD image of a person I had in my files. I took me a couple of tries but once I got the hang of it I know now how to apply it to video or any other footage. I guess my best advice is to practice a few times but Chris’ explanation is really extensive.

    hi chris

i tried to do as u said..
instead of the statue, i made a small rectangle (height=720 my comp height
    and width =100)

    i tried your settings…
the rectangle was placed at the centre
i made another solid.. made a ellipse mask.. applied 3d stroke
in the camera rollout.. i adjusted the z clip front
the default value is 30000.. i adjusted it to make it disappear…. stroke disappears at 355.. at 356 it appears …

tried the rest as u hav said sir..
    but in vain
i think Dwaynne Villiers is also having the same probs as he mentioned in his post ..

how to make it more clear .. sir
    can u help me

    thanx
