First, I would turn off your capture device and unplug it. Then I would re-plug it, then turn it on. Is it being detected by the OS?

If so, I would re-open Vegas, go to capture and see if it now works. If you get the same error message, check under the Video menu (of the video capture windows), you might be able to see the device and set it as the source to capture from.

If still not working, try to capture from another software to see if the problem is with the capture device or with Sony.

Let me know if it helps.

Well, if the background is black, you could just key out the black color. Drop your backgound on the top track, key out the black, and put your video on the second video track (under).

My understanding (i could be wrong!) is that you need a 32 bit AVI file in order to have the Alpha channel on export.

You could also check how the AVI file is interpreted by Vegas on import. Check the video file property to see if the Alpha Channel is set properly. Try Pre-multiplied or Straight. Not sure if you have those options in Vegas Studio though…

One last option would be to export from AE as a TIFF or PNG sequence. Those files would keep the transparency and should be accepted by Vegas (the Pro version does.)

    Hope this helps!

How much memory do would you assign to the XP operating system, based on a 3Gig setup?

    Thanks!

Is it worth it to upgrade if we’re still working with SD on a 32 bit Windows XP computer?

Should the DV-AVI be with lower field/upper field or progressive?

Ok, I’m too far into the project to transfert MPG to AVI on my timeline. I already have that camera mixed together with the two others (multicamera editing). Is it possible to reinterprete footage or something like that? How would I go about converting the MPG to AVI, and could I have the original media replaced with those avi files?

    Thanks!

p.s I’m kind of in a rush. Need to mail it this morning…arghhh.

Won’t that mess up my other two cameras which are regular mini-DV interlaced?
