Hey Shane thanks for getting back to me

ok so i read a thread compairing dvcpro hd with pro res and so i was under the impression that it was a very high quality offline which would allow for fast editing speed as opposed to working in Animation

I just did a test in AE7 taking one of the raw image sequences and setting it to dv/dvcpro but the resulting qt looks very cruddy compaired to the pro res qt. Also when i try doing this same codec setting in qt pro instead of making it the current 1920×1080 it brings it down to sd frame size – it seems i am using the same setting in ae and qt pro but obviously qt pro is shrinking the resolution down…

I am just confused about what codec to edit offline in with these raw image sequences…in the end i will take the final locked edit offline and replace with animation files identical in name just obviously hi res online.

any help would beg reat here in that i have spent so much of the wknd searching the forum and rendering diff formats.

Hey thanks guys,

I guess my question was more about what codec to do besides animation for the online – the process of converting the RAW files in AE i do understand i just wanted some advice about the FCP workflow and whether or not this makes sense…that is whether to do offline in dvc pro hd or if somehow i should be trying to you apple pro res or something…

any other advice people can provide me would be greatly appreciated

I am confused – I am turning the RAW files into QT’s both high res (animation) and ideally an offline codec for editing – i will not be bringing the raw files into fcp…maybe i am misunderstanding your reply but the CD wants to edit in HD frame size 1920 x 1080 and deliver in SD Anamorphic 853×480 – i just want to know the best way of doing these 2 sequence streams – i cannot work in 720×480.

Thanks for replying guys i really appreciate your expertise. So here are the specs of the Macpro in question:

Macpro 3,1 – tiger 10.4.11
Quad-core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz processor, 8 cores, 4gb ram
Graphics Displays – ATI Radeon HD 2600

When we tried installing FCS2 it gives errors – i think it might be because tiger doesn’t recognize the card…

any other info would be great

I thought that as soon as you take it through another step it loses some quality – My next question is why would i use DV when i could use animation or Photo JPEG? Also why use Steamclip when i have QT Pro and/or Compressor?

I am interested to hear your response as well as the opinions of others in this forum
