  • Final Cut Studio not running on brand new gen 8 Core?!!!

Posted by Sean Kapleton on February 27, 2008 at 4:28 pm

    Hey everyone,

Today my IT manager came to me with pretty much nothing you want to hear – that is that Final Cut Studio (and hence Compressor), will currently not run on the brand new generation of Apple 8 Core machines that ship with the standard video card. If you go into the Apple store, drop down 4K for a specific model of the new Mac, you will NOT be able to run Final Cut on it – is this true?

My office rented an 8core specifically for compression needs – so a 4 hour render would take 15 minutes – and Apple is aware of the situation.

Please if anyone has info on this reply because i want to know as much as possible – what would be the easiest solution?

    thank you

False, false and false. I know several folks who own this machine and are happy editing on it.

I was at the Apple Store playing with one of these and FCP, Color, Motion, etc…. all playing nicely on it.

Thanks for replying guys i really appreciate your expertise. So here are the specs of the Macpro in question:

    Macpro 3,1 – tiger 10.4.11
Quad-core Intel Xeon, 2.8 GHz processor, 8 cores, 4gb ram
Graphics Displays – ATI Radeon HD 2600

When we tried installing FCS2 it gives errors – i think it might be because tiger doesn’t recognize the card…

any other info would be great
    thanks

[Paul Harb] “.it comes stock with the NiVidia 8800 video card stock.”

Not according to the specs I read on the Store site. it lists the ATI 2600 as the standard card.

    nVidia 8800 is a $200 up charge.

SO this is one of the NEW MacPros, right? The ones intro’d just before MacWorld? Why does it have Tiger on it? It ships with Leopard. I heard that you cannot install Tiger on that and have it work properly…because the drivers for all the NEW hardware are in the OS, and Tiger doesn’t have the drivers for the new cards.

Yes, I believe you’re right on that.

Ask your IT manager if he genuinely thought that the brand new Apple Pro machines would not run Apple’s own pro software.

    I don’t think so.

    😉
