December 23, 2010 at 3:12 pm in reply to: ATI 5770 & Nvidea GT120 – cheapest option to get going?Yes that would be awesome!
While my priority is learning at home for now I would hate to buy the 120 and realize its just way to weak.
I guess the next step up would be a ATI 5770 & Nvidea 4000 combo or is getting the ATI out of there more important?
cheers

just to clarify – it won’t even run without the added nvidea card. I just want to learn the software at home with tutorials and dont need to view out on an external monitor just need the software to work with exercise files and not crash or whatever while training.
any thoughts?

Hi Walter
thanks for the reply much appreciated. So just to clarify I know not to look on my regular computer monitors for any color critical stuff – yes that is why I have the Dreamcolor However, I do want the dual ACD 23″ monitors to look as close to each other as possible. One standout thing i notice is in the Conclusion Window which I took a grab of there is a difference in the “Native Gamma” settings:
The Brighter / whiter monitor is 2.42 while the darker / yellowish monitor is 1.86 – could this be the problem and if so how can I adjust? Otherwise the settings were done identical in both calibrations (i.e. Target Gamma 2.2 & D65 w/ Native White Point checked).
My second question is when you talk about leaving the QT preference unchecked – why wouldn’t I want QT to match what I see in FCP – why would I want to see a shift between them and have them not match?
thanks

December 21, 2010 at 5:29 pm in reply to: DaVinci Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide, November 2010So Just to clarify after having looked at the guide pdf
Do i need to buy a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 to go with the stock ATI Radeon HD 5770 that came with our office’s new 12-core? Would this be the cheapest option – already have spent so much on the Extreme 3D, HDlink3D & Dreamcolor setup for the 12-core : (
also any word on demo version coming for learning at home? or at least a 30-day trial – i.e. cant render out or renders with an “X” thru the picture?
I really want to learn it and see if its right for upgrading from our Color workflow but want to test to be sure its right for me.
thanks

I never doubted the fxphd course, not sure what you are saying. my post is about a DEMO license for training.

December 7, 2010 at 7:50 pm in reply to: 12-core w/ FCS, Avid MC5, CS5, C4D on same system?Hey Shane thanks for the response!
wow no way BMD doesn’t work with Avid?! i actually only want to install it on my home system to re-familiarize myself with MC5 as I have not used Avid in a few years and want to be able to take on more of that work as well. If I am just doing tutorials and dont need to monitor on my calibrated would that be possible? so i guess its not a big deal that it cant go out to my Dreamcolor but STILL!! what products work AJA, Kona & Matrox only?!
I posted this question on the avid forum as well and got some interesting responses about it effecting 64 bit apps since its only 32bit – any thoughts on that?
cheers
