October 21, 2014 at 4:19 pm in reply to: Using Alpha Channel from one file to grade anotherI was able to import the shot with the matte clip attached. To do this I selected both, right clicked, and selected the matte clip option.
I got them both into the Color panel as well but it is reading the RGB channels and not the alpha. At this point I have the matte I need in only the alpha channel of the matte clip.
Is it possible to do what you are suggesting with the matte clip either in the media pool or with a node?
Thanks!

After doing a few more tests it does seem that this only happens during scrubbing. I’m assuming now that this is a feature Adobe added which maybe in some cases is helpful? The only effects I’m using are Multiband Compressor and Parametric Equalizer. Would these be the culprit? It would be great if there was a way to turn this feature off if it is one.
Thanks for the reply!

This seems like a great option to speed up our current workflow, but does this allow you to do screen sharing? This may be the best way to go, especially because they are only 5 minute videos which don’t take that long to export and upload.

Hey John,
Thanks for the quick response! I was actually forgetting that I needed a straight alpha for the output.
Thanks!

You can use a regular mask and invert the alpha.

July 9, 2014 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Filling in the alpha channel for semi-transparent precompsMaybe I’m not understanding the goal here but wouldn’t you just put a white solid on the bottom to remove the transparency for the matte? Are you trying to maintain the semi transparent areas or make the whole alpha channel white? Are you using an alpha matte or luma matte for the main comp?

There are a few things that could do this I believe but do you have view search region checked? If not, you may just have to play around with the search radius.

This is a little bit more complex than what I believe you are going for but I thought I would share this tutorial.

Not totally sure if this would work with your project but I’ve found that if you do a rough outline and then go in adding points to refine the mask you can get closer to the previous vertices.
But couldn’t you just create the point farther away and drag it into place instead of zooming in?Tim Franklin

Yea that would work. You could replace the rendered footage with the original comp later on if you wanted to/ have time to but as long as you export it correctly you shouldn’t lose quality.
