Editing in HDV. If I need somthing in DV, I just shoot it in DV and bypass the convert. I will look for the software and go with the avi.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I am shooting HDV almost exclusively with sony Z1Us. The only draw back I have encountered is when capturing the capture deck goes black, and you have to watch your tape deck monitor for stop and start. Otherwise no problems.

Can you reccomend a conversion software? If so, what would be the best format to convert from – like mpeg2, avi, ect

    Thanks

    thanks for the reply.

The project includes ongoing videography of bicycle races around the state of colorado. Post production will include promotional videos and public access cable shows. Also, the races draw top level riders from around the world. These are high end professional short track mountain bike races and Cycle La Cross races put on by a local promoter.

When I shoot weddings I charge $165/hour plus travel and editing time. I am thinking of giving this guy a break since it will be an ongoing relationship.

    thanks for any input.

I am having the same exact problem with my Sony Z1U.

I have not figqured out how to get the capture deck to work. My deck is black, yet the controls work, like in your case, and I keep getting reset the camera message. Maybe there is a major software interface problem here.

I still need input on this.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for the input. I am using a PC with AMD dual cores and raptor drives. I am well versed in photoshop, so I will stay with PP. I am looking at the After Effects for more graphics add ins and the Adobe Audio editing software.

And yes, I am working for myself, which means I have to learn everything – all at once and at the same time. Which has its advantages and disadvantages.

The biggest advantage is choosing my tools and projects and getting paid for doing what I love.
