I’m an avid user getting very very tired of waiting for 720 25/50 support and am researching my options. with not much searching around here it seems like hdv capture via tape is not working too well in premiere?

We have the JVC 101 and BRD 50 HDV deck sitting there ready to work.

I am just wondering how things are going in this realm for premiere users? Indeed, how are things generally for the production suite and hdv… because to me it does sound- sweet!

I am shooting HDV almost exclusively with sony Z1Us. The only draw back I have encountered is when capturing the capture deck goes black, and you have to watch your tape deck monitor for stop and start. Otherwise no problems.

HDV is pretty much as easy to capture as DV. No sweat.

I’ve have had excellent results (NTSC not PAL) with the JVC camera and deck you mention. Having shot, edited on PPro and delivered many HDV projects to happy clients I think things are working very well indeed.

Not to say that PPro is fully baked. It still has several areas that need attention. It is pretty stable until your project gets past a certain point and then it starts to crash – apparently due to memory allocation problems. There are a number of basic editng functions that could be much more elegantly implemented. Coming from Avid there will undoubtedly be things that will make you crazy. But most everything you really need is there and it does work.

    hi…
thanks for your reply… when u say it gets to a point and crashes. could you measure where that point might be?

I guess to paint a picture is that our biggest project had 15 hrs of footage for a 40 minute programme… not the best ratio! but that kind of thing could be likely again- is this at that point do you think?

    Regards, Dale…

Hows it going? Just saw your post. Last year I cut a half an hour TV pilot with around the same amount of footage as yourself and never suffered crashes. Make sure you have a lot of RAM and Hardrive space. I cut the pilot on 1.5 aswel so can only imagine 2 is better. You should also check out project management tutorials cause theres a way to keep your project to a reasonable size.
