Try using a hardware solution like a camcorder hooked up via firewire (DV), or a Canopus ADVC300 hooked up via firewire for output to a monitor. There are better, more expensive solutions, but these work too. I tried Scopo Gigio but found it to be quite buggy.

You’re dealing with art in a reduced color gamut (CMYK). Make the conversion by going to LAB, then RGB. Then, adjust the color by using curves or whatever method it takes to make the colors look as they should.

Scale it down to the 77 x 23 image size, then sharpen. The, fade the sharpen to get the desired result.

Shot with multiple flash units at various angles. This particular example is not that extreme. For a more “painterly” look, take a look at the work of Joey Lawrence for extreme post production or Dave Hill who does a lot of his work with strobes and compositing.

Can you set a left justify and right justify for two different tab positions? I haven’t tried this, but thought it might work if allowed in AE.
