Oh that’s a good idea. Shoot I never thought of that and I should have.
I’m not at the computer any more this evening but I’m pretty sure you’ve helped me out on that.
THANKS!

I’ve noticed with 8.5 my system crashed when I switched users, and the autosequence function does not assign tracks correctly (report filed), starting the new sequence with V9 and A10-x instead of V1 and A1-x,

Thanks for this confirmation, saves me a lot of work trying to track it down.
It’s a hassle to workaround, and annoying that it worked nicely in a prior version, was reported by Beta users like yourself, yet still exists. I spoke to Technical Support yesterday and they filed a case number. Should I get a reply I’ll post it here.
Nonetheless I’m sorted and rolling now.
Thanks!

November 18, 2015 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Does anyone think FCPX is NOT a Professional NLE?Well, I hesitate to get too far into it. Somebody will call me out over some damn thing.
I really like the magnetic timeline, getting away from the source/record monitors and the way you can scrub tiles. That’s a really nice improvement for my workflow. This is the best part of the application for me.
The trim functions are great, especially the way FCPX seamlessly expands the clips for trimming. I like that.
It’s not expensive, so that’s a plus.
Motion stabilization works nice and is very handy to access.
Write to primary storyline: it automatically adjusts all your audio trims and I really like that feature.
Some of the things I’ve disliked (and a few I’ve outright hated)
I don’t like the lack of customization of the workspace. I work on 2 monitors and I would like to also resize the browser window.
I’d like to be able to open two events at once, in their own windows.
Speaking of events, I can’t possibly say how much I dislike the nomenclature Library, Event and Project. This has caused no small degree of unnecessary frustration working with my partners.
On several occasions, FCPX has automatically loaded a project without me doing anything. I ended up making revisions to the wrong version at one point, causing a few hours of headaches. This is flaky.
There is no consolidate option. Oh I mean there is but Apple has decided that consolidate now means something different from what it used to mean. I’m in the middle of that mess right now, dealing with huge amounts of data because there is no simple way to do an actual consolidation (and I know the workarounds possible, like with Resolve, but it doesn’t work with h.264 codecs right now)
So those are a few carps. As I stated in my earlier post, I look forward to v 10.3. If anyone’s planning on jumping on me for whatever reason because I’ve criticized FCPX, save it. I just wanted to reply because this is a thoughtful and helpful thread.
Thank you.

November 18, 2015 at 2:48 pm in reply to: Does anyone think FCPX is NOT a Professional NLE?Wow what an interesting thread.
From my side, I have been both very pleased with FCPX and hating it to the very core. It does a lot well, but drops the ball in some key areas (some mentioned in this thread). I am just finishing a series of documentaries on FCPX and will be glad to see the back end of it for a while, but I look forward to v 10.3
For the next feature doc I am cutting, I had the producer go with AVID. I have found AVID to be more reliable and suitable for my style of work.
That being said, I will continue to use FCPX for short projects and look forward to it maturing. It’s a good and affordable tool, but at this stage I’m not a big fan.

November 1, 2015 at 12:45 am in reply to: About audio components, channels and compound clipsWell, might I just note that this whole syncing of multiple mono channels has been a real pain in the ass. What a crock of a system this is to sync multiple mono audio tracks.
Little wonder I am growing to so dislike this software. Way too many issues over the past 4 months.
Total waste of a day getting this sorted and still at it.
Yeah yeah gripes department is down the hall…

October 31, 2015 at 10:06 pm in reply to: occasional bug when switching timelines/loading a project – playback stops/breaksYeah, this happens to me a lot.
I can’t figure out any way around it. I thought maybe my Library size was too big at one point, but that’s not it as I reduced the size and still have the problem, although it DID diminish in frequency somewhat. I tried trashing prefs etc. etc. etc. ad naseum but no luck.
If you click directly on a clip in the timeline, everything should play normally again, but you have to do that a lot.
I’ve noticed it mostly on longer timelines (but I’m talking 45 minute assemble edits here, nothing drastic).
I guess it’s yet another annoyance in FCPX. I’ll add it to my list.

October 31, 2015 at 9:16 pm in reply to: About audio components, channels and compound clipsI’m having a similar issue to the OP. Very helpful info shared here but I’m still battling.
I have shot a short documentary using dual system sound. I imported the audio clips and the video, then used FCP’s synchronize clips function (I didn’t make compound clips). All worked well. If I open the synched clip using Open in Timeline, all 4 audio tracks are there (plus the stereo track that is attached to the imported video).
When I edit that clip into the timeline and use “expand audio”, I see the stereo pair from the video file, and ONE audio track. Only ONE not FOUR.
OKAY it’s sorted out now at least on my side. I needed to use WaveAgent and turn my mono wav files into a polyphonic wav file, then synch THAT polyphonic file to the video clip. Then, when I edit the clip into the timeline and use Expand Audio everything works fine.
I wonder if this contributes to your problem that you are using mono files that have not be wrapped together as polyphonic?
Anyhoo, glad for all the help on this forum that’s for sure!
