It’s XAVC-I. I understand that FCPX needs to rewrap the footage, but what I don’t understand is why I am can’t select a different destination for the media.

Usually, when I’m not Leaving Files in Place I can navigate to where I want them to go, but it’s only giving me the option to import the files into a different Library than the one I want the footage to reside in.

I have no idea why this is happening now, but it’s certainly frustrating. I have media from different projects whoops Libraries (thanks Apple, for that) mixed up in different places now.

Anyhoo thanks for the comments if I come up with some solution I’ll post it here.

    Hi Shane thanks for this,

In AVID MC 8.04 they added functionality for AMA Link to XAVC-I files via AMA. We’ve been using it but, as with much of the “native workflow” bandied about, I’ve expected to run into some problems. We’re in early stages and have a plan to transcode everything for ease of use.

Thanks for your input on the syncing and transcode issue I asked about. Very valuable.

  • As per the Larry Jordan link above, I’ve pared down my library. All issues resolved now, such as:

Timeline unable to play without hanging and showing the Project’s thumbnail in the viewer window.

Unable to use track selection (All, Video only, Audio only)

Adding Audio only would add video and audio to an audio “track” (or whatever the hell these things are supposed to be called now)

Smart Library never did show up again, so I must have deleted it somehow when trashing prefs and a few other cleanup items.

Oh, and all my Markers are gone in a whole bunch of interviews too. How nice.

  • Just in case any of you other sods are experiencing the above issues:

I think my Library might be too big. I’m working on a series of short films with a lot of footage shared among shoot days and individual films. My Library has about 4,000 clips and about 20 Projects.

I’ve read elsewhere on this terrific forum that FCPX might have a clip limit in a Library of around 3,000 clips? But then others have projects much bigger than that with no issues.

So as per a great article by Larry Jordan (link below) I’m creating some different Libraries and paring down the main project.

Props to Larry Jordan for all his help and this article:

[Scott Witthaus] “Hey! Congratulations! You be sure to let us know how that all goes!”

Yeah I’ll make that a priority for you.

Hey Scott I told you I’d get on this. Working pretty good on AVID right now on a complicated project with tons of dual camera footage.

It’s going well (although there are things I miss about FCPX).

Thanks for your concern : )

    Howdy!

I am currently working in FCP 10.2 and there’s lots I like about it. However I’m moving to AVID MC 8.4 because FCPX has been an exercise in frustration way too many times.

I certainly have a few frustrations with FCP 10.2, but maybe I’ve overlooked a few things? Removing effects is a hassle (well it is for me because I assumed there was a remove all FX command). I find a “select all forward/backward” command really useful but maybe that will come later. Unlike many users expressing frustration with this application, I like the magnetic timeline… most of the time.

That being said I am also starting a feature length documentary on AVID MC8.4 and am looking forward to leaving FCPX behind until Apple incorporates some of the feature requests we have been sending them.

True enough. I’ve been using FCPX intensively for the past few months now and am always surprised by how many things I find frustrating that you’d think would be available in a good editing application, like DUPE DETECTION.

I’m having too many WTF moments with FCPX compared to my WOW moments.
