Hi, Sue. I have done a few projects like this in AE and the good news is its not THAT difficult to do. You could try it in Final Cut, but Final cut lacks a main ingredient to pulling off the effect the way I feel is most flexible. I can only talk in generalities here because thats a long animation.

#1 After Effects Allows for extremely large ‘comp’ sizes. What I have done is create a very large ‘master file’ like 2500×2500 or larger depending on layout. If your outputting to a d1 comp (720×486) what you do is simply import the LARGE comp into the di comp and make it a 3d layer. I would create various ‘phrases’ in strategic areas of the
LARGE comp that animate on like in the sample. create a 720×486 solid
white or black shape and fade it to like 15%. Use this solid to guage
how large your final screen size is, so when you individually animate the text to come together (the easiest part in my opinion) you can
overlay the solid on top of your animated text to make sure you are within the proper size. Now lets say you divide the animation into
15 animated “moments’ with text. You would ‘lay out’ phrase by phrase your design on the large canvas. One next to the other and all timed to the audio. Where you place these phrases will dictate your
camera move/path and how fast you move your camera. I personally would “comp” the animated phrases BEFORE I brought them onto the large canvas allowing me easier editing of the indivdual phrases.
You COULD edit those phrases letter by letter in the LARGE comp, but it would be much slower and more diffucult to do a lot of detail work
on the large comp. Doing it this way gives you lots of flexibility
with the timings, locations and individual phrase animations you create. Your MAIN 720×486 comp simply navigates from phrase to phrase. As you do this you may see some areas appear ’emptier’ than
others as the camera moves from phras to phrase. You can easily
go BACK to your LARGE comp and add more animated elements to taste.
In final cut, you cant create that huge comp (import and pan on it)
like you can in AE. Doing it in AE like I lay out here also helps you avoid the need for ANY complicated masking. The camera move you
create can tilt and angle in whatever angles you chose. You will need to have some skill creating a nice LARGE background that is seamless in the LARGE comp. But your sample has an easy backround to
make huge. You will be pushing After Effects memory limits potentially, but there are ways to deal with that if it happens to you.

I hope this was a little clear 🙂 But I HAVE done it (more comlicated than your sample) before. Have fun!!

the video uses a massive amount of both 2d and 3d visuals. Its very well done, imho.
to get more specific, you’d have to isolate a shot to get more specific feedback from us\me.

you know what Joe, Both Kyle and I thought you were rude and sarcastic. I see no mischaracterization in that. Now I can tell you cant leave well enough alone and leave this thread with a simple apology.

You needed? ‘the last word’? Take your stubborn attitude somewhere else please. Let this thread end.

when someone who posts a question is given a sarcastic response that makes the questioner uncomfortable, its wrong. Period. Your last post where you apologized is all you needed to do,
we all can come across wrong at times, just apologize and move on.

    have a great day!

KYLE, Im glad you found some help, I am just getting back to the forum after some work. FYI- post ANY question you want on this forum related to a motion graphics effect. Don’t feel a need to scour the forum for tutorials, you can if you want, but you should feel welcome asking away.

No offense Mr Moya, but lose the attitude\sarcasm. I see it too much from impatient ‘know it alls’. If you don’t have a positive answer to a members question, then stay away. Tutorials work for some, for others they can be poorly constructed. He came to this forum to ASK a ‘how to’ question, NOT search for an archived tutorial. And I personally dont appreciate you telling ANYONE that this forum is the WRONG place to ask questions first on “how to do” a specific look or effect. Forums here on the cow will be changing names some, even more in the future, to help FOCUS questions. This forum is NOT just an After Effects forum, its
whatever software works BEST to accomplish an effect or look.

That tutorial is fine for a user thats paid the $200 some extra dollars for the plug-in. But particular is slow, and for some, diffucult to learn. It’s a perfect example of why you should ask an industry pro who has used MULTIPLE solutions to achieve an effect, and may recommend the easier, faster or better way to do the effect than the tutorial. Particular is a great example of this. Its so slow and convoluted that you NEED tutorials JUST to get something out of it.
Its a great solution for some things, but certainly not the first thing I would recommend to a new to intermediate user.

Its nice when users help out in these forums, but Ill tell you this, be glad Im telling you this and not Ron, He has no patience for anyone acting cocky or demeaning or sarcastic to
    any users here.

    Live, and learn……

I dont have it in front of me, but yes that makes sense. You have an origin and one other setting for 2
shatter ‘zones’. Basically, it sounds like your playing around with the settings. For many, thats how you learn the ins and outs of some of these plugins.

Shatter can accomplish a LOT of different looks besides a “shatter”, just think outside the box a little (I hate that phrase : )

Hi Kyle, click on my head 🙂 and take a look about 1 minute and 45 seconds into my demo reel. I think that is the effect you are looking for.

••••• if im correct, what I used was the plug in shatter, included with
AE. I cranked the repeat setting super hi so the “pieces” looked like sand or close. You animate the location of the shatter, and do some compositing in after effects. I have to run to a freelance gig or I would give even more detail.

send a couple of bucks to a charity if you feel inclined too. Advice on the Cow is FREE! 🙂 🙂
