Hi Kyle, click on my head 🙂 and take a look about 1 minute and 45 seconds into my demo reel. I think that is the effect you are looking for.

••••• if im correct, what I used was the plug in shatter, included with
AE. I cranked the repeat setting super hi so the “pieces” looked like sand or close. You animate the location of the shatter, and do some compositing in after effects. I have to run to a freelance gig or I would give even more detail.

    Hey Scott,

That is a very nice demo reel..Maybe when you have more time you can explain in detail because I’m confused by what you are trying to tell me..In your demo that is exactly the effect i was looking for…Thanks Again

Amazing thing that… “Search” Box in the AE forum.

Searching the AE forum instead of this new Motion Graphics will find more information.

    So… you have problems making a matte…

    Look at this basic tutorial:

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/rabinowitz_aharon/Shape_Tips_1/video-tutorial.php

You would create a matte very similar to this in the sand tutorial.

Using solids,… Use the pen tool to create the matte and feather the edges.
