My preview ram was automatically set to all the ram available. I did not remember to change this to around 75% of available. I am hoping this is the reason. I will try again today.
What percent of ram do you set?

I believe I will output through the composite jacks on the NX5 and into a composite to USB interface attached to the laptop. Not sure about the format as that will be up to the service providers software.

September 29, 2010 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Variable Bit Rate for Vegas to DVDA (Media too large)Hi Gillis, what you can do is put all 8 videos on the timeline and render out an AVI file. Then open up DVDA and add the movie AVI file. Next go to prepare disc. At the bottom of the DVDA page is an option, “fit to disc” click yes and it will fit the video onto the disc. However, the bit rate will be small. My suggestion is to but a DL DVD. When you create the DVD select disc type as DVD-9 ( DVD DL 9 G disc). This will give you more room, better bit rate, better video and will play exactly like a regular DVD . that’s it!

September 29, 2010 at 2:58 pm in reply to: Variable Bit Rate for Vegas to DVDA (Media too large)Thanks Mike, I’ve been marking down my own calculations regarding video length and the amount of storage needed. I sometime use a bit calculator which was created within an excel spreadsheet, but its a bit confusing and often gave a poor calculation. I will try Mark’s bit rate calculator now. I did notice it does not list Blu-Ray DVDs. Is there an upgraded version?

awesome, to hear about FC working with AVCHD. Smart move on Apple to have this solution. Mainly due to Sony & Panasonic creating AVCHD cameras! I appreciate everyone’s input, gotta love the cow!

Hi John, congratulations on accepting the host position on the forum. I believe you are the right guy on this site.
I was talking to one of my shooters about a similar problem you described regarding ghost focusing. He operates a Sony Z5. When his camera is close to his apple iphone, the zoom controls and focus start moving. He believes there is some FQ waves which can interfere with the controls of his camera.

I believe the short answer to your question is no. However you do want to set up your project properties to the format you shot in your footage. Example, you recorded HD (1920×1080) in your camera, but your final output will be SD mpeg2 for a SD DVD. Set you properties to HD 1920 x 1080. Capture your footage in HD. When you have finished editing in HD, render to the size of file you want, in this example DVD architect WS mpeg2.

Hi John, I would like to know what you think is the best set up for monitoring HD production. I am working with NXCAM AVCDH files trans-coded to cineform .avi files. I have two 19″ monitors. The preview monitor is within the vegas layout. I too thought I could use the HDMI out of the video card connected to an HD TV, but reading this thread, this is not going to work. What’s your take on checking the work flow as you edit? thanks, Scott

Hey John, you can have the date and time stamped on the video. Go to menu, cursor down to the last option which looks like a file cabinet.Hit Enter or Cursor over to the right and select DATE REC / ON
that’s it.
