Thank you for your input. My post is really two questions. The 2nd part was not answered. The second part of the question is how are people setting up two monitors for the timeline environment and a third monitor as a preview monitor. I’ve been researching this now and believe I have an answer. I need something like a Black Magic Design Intensity Pro card. What I don’t know is this compatible with Sony Vegas and will it support this scenario?

    To answer your question:

    – is your wireless mic connected to the H4n while recording? or is it connected to some other recording stuff?

    While recording. Connected directly.

I believe the audio issue has something to do with Sony Vegas. The wireless mic was feed into the H4n through a balanced input from the receiver. The Mics on the H4n are built into the unit. The settings used were the 4 channel recording.

When I listened to the recording (today) directly from the H4n there is no noise. When I bring the files into my computer and play the file in windows media player, there is no noise. When I bring the same file into Vegas 10, Vegas 11, both have the noise present. I then imported the file into another workstation and into Vegas 10 & 11. Noise was present again. Through my process of elimination I am down to the Vegas software as the issue.

Things to do before a project. Set your project properties to match media settings. It is very simple to do. Open Project Properties from the File tab and on the top right click on the film strip icon. This is the match footage dialog box. You then select a piece of footage from the project. Now your project is set up to work smoothly for editing.

Another thing I like to do is go to your preference tab and select the General tab. Carefully look at all items and check off the items you want to change. I like to check off the make spacebar and F12 Play/Pause instead of Play/Stop. I also unchecked the first item; auto open last project on start up. If my last project was large, it will take a minute or so to load up and it might not be the project I want. One last item. In preferences tab go to VST Effects. Be sure to locate your VST effects folder so Vegas can use those plugins. That’s it for now, Cheers Scott

Hi Dave, I believe I resolved the issue with the help of Stephen Mann. Before I started the project I decided to upgrade to Vegas 11. When Vegas installed it has an automatic default which looks at the amount of Ram in your computer then assigns the entire amount to Ram Preview. Under Options/Preference/Video/ram preview. So I had all 16 GB of ram assigned to ram preview. According to Stephen Mann, this situation did not allow any ram to be used for rendering. (thank you Stephen). I then created a highlight reel from the same timeline, duration 20 min. I set the ram preview to 1000 mb. It took about 50 mins to render the video. PS. I managed to complete my project yesterday with a Fed Ex delivery today in time for thanksgiving. My stress level has returned to normal, although I may not live as old as I want too.

So Stephen, what you are saying is, all my ram was allocated to the preview ram, there was no ram left to do the render. Is this correct?

I had a similar issue, only with Vegas text editor. I put in a simple date after my new blue animated title. When I started the render the computer stopped when the Vegas text was about to appaer. I suspect something is wrong with the reg text editor. I deleted the title and started a new render. Computer didn’t stop, however it took 29 hrs to finish.
