hi guys,
this is something i have been wrestling with for a while and haven’t had very many responses. perhaps because i posted in the ae forum rather than the expressions forum!
the above expressions don’t behave as they should in ae cs4. the psoterize does not apply to the wiggle… and i can’t seem to figure out how to make it work. it seems to be a bug in ae cs4. can anyone confirm or deny?
i really need this expression to work and so far have had to resort to manually keyframing. due to the nature of my project, using a precomp with a lower frame rate and setting this to “preserve frame rate when nested” is not an option for me.
🙁thanks,
scott. -
as a side note, posterize time as an expression in cs4 does not appear to work as it did previously in cs3.

December 8, 2008 at 11:32 pm in reply to: CS4 performs about 4 times worse then CS3?! Please helpI was also surprised that I didn’t get any comments on my question about lights, which seems to be ANOTHER bug in CS4. Unless it’s just my install?
I can’t seem to move lights using keyboard shortcuts. I have to grab the light (tricky to do when they are essentially points) and drag it with the mouse, my arrow keys or shift+arrows don’t affect position at all! This is really bugging me as I use lights a lot and like to shift them with shorcuts using different camera views (top, side, front) to get them where I need them.
But as I said, I am not sure if this is a further bug or if something screwy has happened with my install (Intel Mac, 8 core, 4gb ram). -

December 7, 2008 at 10:47 pm in reply to: CS4 performs about 4 times worse then CS3?! Please helpHow about the “bug” (or “feature” as Adobe would like to think of it) of the search filter in CS4? Do a search – it shows only what you searched for, meaning you cannot move a searched-for item to another folder in the project hierarchy. Then you close the search – and ALL folders are collapsed and closed, regardless of your previous project state. So, open all the folder again to find you folder of comps for the current scene/shot, keep working. repeat every time you do a search. What UI genius thought of that? there was nothing wrong with the search in CS3. It found what I wanted every time, and left all the other folders open and visible, allowing me to see what else was in that folder or move the item to another folder if i wanted to.
If have posted a caveat to the online help to this effect. -

December 7, 2008 at 10:27 pm in reply to: CS4 keyboard shortcuts to move layer’s position do not apply to lights????So no one else has this problem? Is this a weird bug that only I am having??? I’ll have to go back a version if I can’t move lights with keyboard shortcuts.

December 4, 2008 at 9:55 am in reply to: CS4 performs about 4 times worse then CS3?! Please helpi have been experiencing the same thing, it also seems to crash a lot. maybe our it guy did something weird, but every time i quit (command q) it crashes and i get an error message (send/ignore crash report). every single time. i think i will go back to cs3 until a 9.01 update comes out.

my response doesn’t seem to be showing up in the posts list on the main page (or page 2, or 3, depending on the date and how many posts you have set to show on the front page). is this a cow feature i don’t know about?
anyway, as i said, the expression workaround given by darby doesn’t seem to work for cs4. thanks anyway, but it looks like i am stuck until a 9.01 update comes out. 🙁 -
hey darby,
that doesn’t seem to work in cs4 either.
dan or other expressions experts, does anyone have a workaround for this?? i find it quite odd that the behaviour for this expression is totally different going from cs3 to cs4. -
thanks so much for that, i wasn’t aware of what that button did. now i can get previews of my wireframes in alternate views after all!
that’s a great tip and i’ll be telling my coworkers about it. 🙂 my workflow should smooth out a little today too! -
Hi Dave,
Again thanks for the tip but not quite what I am looking for. If you simply enlarge the mask then the arms and legs of the drawn mask don’t match up with the arms and legs of the person you are trying to mask. It needs to be an expansion or a negative choke of some kind, but so far I haven’t found any combination of effects that will negatively choke (grow) a mask/matte and keep sharp edges and corner points. Oh well, guess I may have to use the cutout filter in photoshop in a batch operation.
Why did adobe stop making AE and PS plugins compatible? I remember when I used to be able to use all my PS plugins in AE.
