Yeah…I have done that, Windows 7 is great, but they changed things just enough to be a pain sometimes! Be sure that your external is fast enough, depending on media codec’s and track count. I can do a little editing on a USB 2 drive, but try to use esata when at all possible…honestly I have 8 TB of space internally I just use external that is disconnected and stored for a safe backup….

these are hidden folders….. you need to set windows to view hidden folders. I always use “save as” and select drive and location to save the .veg file too…

I do the same thing as John, I also keep my pictures in a separate folder (if I am using any), additional audio files their own folder, and also do split up any camera angles ( I sometimes will do up to 7 camera angles on some shoots) into their own folder (such as pit cam, jib cam, etc), and even save FX presets into a folder sometimes as well, so I ALWAYS know where to look for a project’s file, no matter what type!
In addition, I also save .veg files in steps as well, as in:
insert name-Pre-edit.veg
insert name-editing.veg
insert name-with fx.veg
etc…..
this way if I get a corrupt file, or need to backtrack to a previous big edit point, I can.
I would also backup to an external drive per project. I do this in case I have a major crash, lightning strike, etc, I will then back up my .veg files as well to the same drive periodically as well.
This may seem like a lot of time, but it has saved me on a number of occasions and also protects and client files. If I have to start from scratch on a project again..all the costs I would need to absorb…that would suck!!

Two thoughts, are you capturing DV or HDV?
One, if HDV can Movie Studio do HDV? and if so are you trying to capture in the HDV format or DV?
If it cannot capture HDV, than make sure you have the camera downconverting any HDV footage to DV and capture in DV…hope this makes sense!Scott Francis

That is why I disable windows “sounds” perhaps that is why I don’t have that issue. But I would suspect that Presonus is more than able to handle it, considering I have never had that issue on other computers that still have their sounds enabled.
There are also, many reasons to have something better than a motherboard sound card.Scott Francis

That can completely defeat the reason for using a higher quality sound device!! Why would Vegas want us to do that when it is also supposed to be a good quality Audio recorder as well!! Are we REALLY supposed to not use a better device? That is absurd!!! (nothing directed at you John…just why the heck can we not use it!!)

Is your firmware the newest version for the Presonus? I am using a Firestudio (26×26) and Win 7 Ulitmate and have been OK, I occasionally have a sync issue but that is all.

If you have a camcorder that does analog to digital conversion, you could use that. My Sony FX1 allows both composite and s-video inputs and outputs to DV format. Other camcorders do this as well, you could try something like that if you are lucky enough to have one of these type camera….good luck.
