I use Erie, have $1 million in liability (max 2 occurances a year), and cover about $60,000 in equipment, insure my studio building and another $10,000 in contents for $960 a year….to me, that is more that worth it….I am in PA but I have others in VA that switched to Erie as well…

I REALLY like my AMD 1090T BE!! I am using a GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 with 8 gig of ram and a 60 GB SSD drive for my system drive. I also have about 8TB of of drives from 1-2TB each. I also had a Blackmagic Intensity (PCIe) and capture BETA sp with that. All in all it has been really good. I had to adjust my sample size for my Presonus Firestudio so my audio was good when using a lot of Waves plugins…
I was just really confused why I have to preview at “Preview Full” instead of “Best Full” when my resources are being used so little.This things COOKS when rendering….I remember when I was rendering with my Quad Core and on took 18 hrs, I did the same with this and it took 2.5hrs! Quite a jump….Vegas just baffles me sometimes though…

I don not believe you will see any increase in any rendering speed (but I can only speak for Vegas). The card is more of an in/out card for high quality video, more of a capture card, NOT a video card.
I got mine specifically to fly in BETA SP and also a variety of other analog sources….in Vegas I can use it to preview but gain nothing at all in render speeds or preview quality. It does NOT to my understanding have any CUDA processing which is what Vegas and Premiere need… good luck!Scott Francis

My main reasons are the following:
1) Like the idea of going tape less. Doing a lot of theatre and concert shoots, changing tape is a real pain. I always capture to laptops as well (tape actually ends up being a backup) but I use a lot of 11′ high towers, off of balcony rails mounts and such and not needing to worry about tape would be awesome! And even allow me to fly some cams!!! (Yes I know there are portable HD units, but lets face it, they are WAY overpriced)
2) Modern sensors seem to have gotten better. I also am a bit old school and like CCD’s, but in reality CMOS seems to have overtaken the market, and seeing some footage from some cams just looks amazing using CMOS.
3) 24p, there is a lot of reason my clients would like this and frankly after using some footage from a 5D, I loved it!
4) Staying up to date…..If anyone has cams (other than the TM700-900 which has no wired remote option) please let me know!!

HDR-HC1 shoots pretty nice, other than low light issues. I have found ways around low light noise however by setting shutter speed and W/B manually and then having the lighting guy set his lowest light level and MANUALLY adjusting my exposure (HC1 has no manual gain or iris, is opens up the iris and then adds gain automatically). I do set shutter speed, W/B and gain for the FX1 and run iris on auto when shooting in a theatre/concert setting. The HC1 then fits in pretty reasonably with the FX1 with a little color matching….but I love the FX1 on so many levels…just looks darn nice!

I often have to color match my HC1 to FX1’s primarily in the reds (HC1 is more magenta than the fx1) have presets I made for them, no issues.
The FX7 was a BEAR…all colors were quite different(I ALWAYS W/B every camera with a large 3’x2′ card on stage and it didn’t matter), terrible noise in low light (even with gain balanced correctly) I learned to hate that camera!! In normal light it was great..but get it in a theatre setting…no way!
I think it was more than CCD vs CMOS, since HC1 is CMOS and FX1 is CCD, and I have gotten those to play well together…
Just looking at some footage from a CX500…I was impressed with the look, hence my thoughts on AVCHD..Thanks John!!

Thanks John…I had an FX7 and had so many issues with color matching, noise, connectors and the like that I sold it and got another FX1….
So you feel HDV is better quality video as well as being easier to edit?Scott Francis

My pockets are not that deep, I am looking to replace two HC1’s with something else. I have 3 FX1’s and could look into used ones of those (I LOVE how they look) but I also want to stay up to date as well. Canon has some new one’s coming out that are AVCHD that are in the $1500 range that look REALLY interesting and they would also give me 24p native as well, which some of my clients would like. I have looked into some of the sony ex cams and have used some as well, they are cool, but I think they are out of my $ range.
