Posted this in Business forum but no response, so here’s an OT query:
Anyone have suggestions about AV insurance? Got a renewal in the mail and it is almost double what it was last year. I had no claims, paid in full last year and called company to ask why.
They said it was “industry-wide”. Ok… whatever.

Anyways… I’m shopping around. Would appreciate any input. I’m a small shop and need to check alternatives.

    Thanks,

    Chas

Are you talking about loss or liability insurance?
Like most videographers, I work naked. The premium for insurance is a month’s income and I have little to lose.

Liability / Property Damage Policy for AV production.

I feel your pain Stephen. Before I got out on my own, I saw too many accidents made by inexperienced PA’s doing dumb stuff like burning ceilings with bounce-light, scratching up wood flooring with crates & stands, scarring up walls or worse. So when I got my name as the responsible party I got insurance. I’ve had it for several years and never had a claim. Now it’s almost doubled and I’m a bit chagrined.

I’ve had to lower my rates to be competitive in my business yet insurance companies keep raising their rates. So I’m looking for some coverage at a lessor premium. If I don’t get coverage, I may not get gigs because a lot of the companies ask if I’m insured and sometimes request proof (which I don’t blame them).

I use Erie, have $1 million in liability (max 2 occurances a year), and cover about $60,000 in equipment, insure my studio building and another $10,000 in contents for $960 a year….to me, that is more that worth it….I am in PA but I have others in VA that switched to Erie as well…

    Scott
