    Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why Vegas does not use a lot of RAM and processing power when editing? I have a hexacore system with 8 gig of ram, Windows 7 64 bit ultimate, Vegas Pro 10c and all my threads available and used in Vegas. When I watch my performance monitor under Windows it uses less than 20% cpu and just over 2 gig or ram….but the preview, x-fades and such have to be lower quality than I would like. What gives? Just with the system running with nothing open I use 3% cpu and just over 1.1 Gig ram….why does Vegas not use the resources available?
Thanks for any help and insight!!

    Regards
    Scott

Only the Sony developers can explain how and why Vegas uses resources. I assume it doesn’t use more memory because it doesn’t need to. As for CPU utilization, I just dropped some test Panasonic HDC-TN700 1080-60p footage into a 720-24p project (just to give Vegas a lot of work to preview) and all 4 of my cores are blazing at about 75% the first time through.

I will say that once watched, Vegas caches the frames based on my Dynamic RAM preview which I keep set to 1024MB because I use Boris BCC7 a lot, and the second time through the same clip, the CPU’s were only at 14%. So once Vegas starts caching frames it doesn’t use as much CPU. If you are never seeing the CPU’s up around 75% and the preview is stuttering, that is very strange.

Other than that, how do you like your hexcore? I’m thinking of building one. What motherboard did you use?

I REALLY like my AMD 1090T BE!! I am using a GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 with 8 gig of ram and a 60 GB SSD drive for my system drive. I also have about 8TB of of drives from 1-2TB each. I also had a Blackmagic Intensity (PCIe) and capture BETA sp with that. All in all it has been really good. I had to adjust my sample size for my Presonus Firestudio so my audio was good when using a lot of Waves plugins…
I was just really confused why I have to preview at “Preview Full” instead of “Best Full” when my resources are being used so little.

This things COOKS when rendering….I remember when I was rendering with my Quad Core and on took 18 hrs, I did the same with this and it took 2.5hrs! Quite a jump….Vegas just baffles me sometimes though…

    Thanks for the input!
    Regards
    Scott
