Look at the bright side, everytime they “rebrand” or expand/change their programing it creates more work for the industry to cut promos, gfx etc etc.

your best option would be to rent pal cameras then shoot, edit and author in pal. or shoot and edit in NTSC and have your final video converted to pal then author in pal.
It may cost you a few extra bucks, but just bill it back to the client. they are the ones who want a pal dvd in ntsc land

Since you said you don’t do much HD work, I would stick with your adrenaline and just buy a 8600 or whatever the Hp new Z series is (z800 maybe?)
or get a mac pro, then you can still run your avid and have the option for FCP (though if you like avid, odds are your not gonna like FCP)
you can still use your adrenaline hardware with either of these options

Here is a really great tool for sorting media…
It’ll scan the media database and show you what media belongs to which project. through it you can move, delete, copy media.
it was writen by some russian guy, it’s been around for awhile.(oh, and it’s safe to download and run)

If you do uncompressed, just make sure the storage with Avid you rent can handle Uncompressed HD. meaning not all storage can handle the bit rate. I would just use DNX220 10 bit

I get that…but at WHAT quality? What setting? if you have 1080i, 720p and DV (480i) in one sequence, do they play back at THEIR quality, or converted to the sequence setting quality? That is what I am confused by.The project setting. So if you have 1080i 59.94, 23.98 and DV in a 30i project, it plays back at 30i and whatever rez it was captured
at, be it 2:1, Dv or whatever for the particular clip.at least thats they way I’m understanding it. And thats the way mix resolutions work in avid.

The “Full Quality” thing is that you don’t have to render to play/edit and you can view it in full quality “green” mode (not the 1/2 quality yellow/green mode)
But you do have to render when you do a digital cut to tape (but you
can run a dvd screener without rendering)The other cool thing I read with mix frame rates is that you can change the delfault field motion. The Field Motion can be Interlaced/Progressive/2:3 Film/Progressive Strobe.
also NTSC and Pal in the same sequence.

At the end of the day the client is paying you, If they want to dictate every little detail and have you push the buttons it’s their right.
you just need to decide if you want their money or not. If you want it, do what your told. If not, tell them to take a hike and find different cilents.
