I also say go with the ProRes as the Canon 300 MXF is awkward to work with and has no visual benefit over a 4444 PR.
If they only encoded 422, well take a good look at it and then decide.
But generally its not worth using the camera files if resolution and encoding are decent enough.
its not a Red or Alexa….heck, its not even a DSLR 😉

Well…I can confirm what Autodesk said and it also affects Resolve 9 and 10
I do not have smooth playback in 4 projects I just checked after installing Mavericks on our beefy company machine running 3 GTX 680s
Blackmagic Speedtest reports 700 mb/s read and write but playback in Resolve is hitting only 22 fps on a SD PAL uncompressed project with 5 nodes.

I had a Quadro 4000 running in one and it just worked totally fine.
I guess if you find the power it will be ok.

PS : The Quadro 4000, The AJA KONA 3 and the Decklink Extreme are for sale if someone is interested … Price is 50% of the cheapest retail you can find 🙂

October 22, 2013 at 10:25 am in reply to: Persistent cache still no go

    Oh boy….
I had high hope for a new cache method.
This is still unusable in its actual state…sorry to say…
Moving a clip in the edit page up or down still invalidates the whole cache for every shot.
In my world the cached nodes need to be movable…
The cache needs to stay until I change the grading…not the in or out point.
Also I would like to see the “Mark clip for render cache” function to be available when multiple clips are selected.

October 16, 2013 at 6:34 am in reply to: Resolve 10b and 9 on the same system?

    Easy..
STart by renaming your Resolve app into its actual numerical form.
I am running Resolve 9.1.6, so thats what I called it and dragged a new shortcut into the dock.
    Then just install Resolve 10.
You will notice that it is also called Blackmagic Resolve , so go on and rename that one to Resolve 10b3 for example.
This will always prevent you from overwriting the older version.

The tricky part could be the database…the disk based one is not a problem, the projects will just show up.
Importing the old one from 9 is now also possible and I would just keep em separate.

The only annoying thing which I learned during the early beta stage is that the quicktime handlers my differ.
That results in the “powerhouse bug” which at one point prevented my from using certain QT files and also caused problems with RED files.
But since the last beta they co-exist in peace in my system.
Just be sure to use the latest Resolve 9.1.6 too

October 13, 2013 at 10:40 pm in reply to: R10Beta3 ‘join clip’ functionality?

    I totally second this…
As much as I like a fast scene detection , a accurate one would be great to have.
Optical flow could be used to compare frames, minimal cut length should be be easy to implement tomorrow.
With a good optical flow scene detection you could even restore pan an scan animation …
