  • Yeah, I am waiting for a week now .. luckily I have no clients who need real time playback 😉
Funny enough, rendering speed is not affected, just playback.
There must be some trouble with the audio/video engine in Mavericks.
I cant even playback a simple 720×576 ProRes in resolve right now.

    Update…

It seems the problem is the audio part of the Decklink Extreme card.
If I am using DPX files I have no problems…
Only QT files with audio embedded or wav files loaded into Resolve will cause severe stuttering .
Also any kind of video playback through the card gives the same problems.
    Vimeo, Youtube, QT….you name it.
If I am using the optical it works just fine…
I doubt this is an nVidia issue.

I much rather have a solid factory mapping I can learn than a custom mapping that differs from place to place.
But in its actual state, its cumbersome.
What BMD do is offer different schemes people could switch to..
For example, I see myself jumping to the KEY menu all the time, not to work with the key, but to change the GAIN.
Its my favourite function , I need it on the front page, same goes for saturation.
And on the transport panel, next and prev keyframe are as essential as En/Dis All…no one need Unmix or Add Lay.
So a more clever, daily task oriented mapping would be much more useful than the logical grouping it has now.

R10 is in RC2 state and its great as it is but its not totally final.
Are you working in a client based couch environment ?
    Then go 9.1.6
Are you sitting with it alone and have no hard deadline ?
Go R10 … its fun to explore the new stuff and find out if your system is up for it.

Or do what I do and run both, you just need to rename the app into something else than its original name and install the other one.
Be aware that you might run into Digital Powerhouse incompatibilities which might affect RED performance

  • Sorry to be a party pooper, but can you take the hackintosh discussion to another place and not hijack the Mavericks thread, please ?
    Thank you…

    There is nothing better…
I am quite a plugin sucker and followed the development through my Dfusion, Nuke and Autodesk years…
Its unmatched in complexity, control , quality and reliability.
Its also not their fault everyone else if giving software for free these days 😉

  • Forget the message….
You will have no performance anyway…
Go back to ML if you need to work with clients or wait it out like I do right now.
The ball is in the field of nVIdia right now and I expect either a new driver or new CUDA extensions to pop up soon.
They know…Autodesk made it very clear and very public.

PS : I am actually waiting for BMD to issue a similar warning.

October 24, 2013 at 12:34 pm in reply to: Real-time/dropped frames playback option?

    Sure thing…we all have.
Bottom line is, if your clients think of the grading so low they dont invest in a Cubix and three GTX680 cards, you cant work…period.
I just had the pleasure to work in a company who had a brand new Mac their dealer sold em cheap with a GT120 and a Quadro4000 .
Normally I tend to use my “Wunderbaum” a 20 node preset for every shot as I define a lot of standards but at this place it was just not possible.
We ended up caching everything….and it it wouldnt be such an unsave and unreliable thing, I would be ok with it as it does it on the fly .
But then the director asked for a tiny editing change and that invalidated the 1 hour cache.

So right now, until something changes on the software side, or people invest at least a decent amount the best solution is to render everything into a ned folder structure and load that into a new timeline for review.

Doing so you are save during the presentation on a low end system , you can do minor changes to the graded stuff and if you need to you can jump back to the first stage of grading.

October 24, 2013 at 8:44 am in reply to: OSX 10.9 Mavericks …yay oh nay?

Resolve 10RC1 did not change the fact that it is not fit for production yet.
But given the fact that Resolve 9 is working equally bad on Mavericks I blame the nVidia drivers.
