    Hey Guys,

    Just wondering if anyone else has seen this:

    I’m running Resolve 9.1.6.009 on a 12 Core Mac Pro with 12GB of Ram, running 10.8.4

    The fastest standard candle results I’m getting are a when using single GTX680, without a GUI card.

    Here are my results – they were actually the opposite of what I was expecting.

    GTX680 used as combined GPU & GUI :
    04 Blur Nodes 24 FPS
    08 Blur Nodes 24 FPS
    16 Blur Nodes 14 FPS
    32 Blur Nodes 07 FPS
    64 Blur Nodes 04 FPS
    01NR 2 Nodes 11 FPS
    03NR 2 Nodes 04 FPS
    06NR 2 Nodes 02 FPS

    GTX680 used as GPU only
    Quadro 4000 used a GUI, Y-Split power cable used, resolve set to NOT use GUI as GPU.

    04 Blur Nodes 22 FPS
    08 Blur Nodes 22 FPS
    16 Blur Nodes 15 FPS
    32 Blur Nodes 08 FPS
    64 Blur Nodes 04 FPS
    01NR 2 Nodes 11 FPS
    03NR 2 Nodes 04 FPS
    06NR 2 Nodes 02 FPS

    So, here we see they adding a GUI card actually stopped the system from hitting 24 FPS at any level, as well as making the fans run louder, and using up a PCIe slot

    Just for a test, I also tried setting resolve the use the GUI as a GPU – it actually made the entire system slower again.

    Finally, I tried what should be the current “Holy Grail” configuration for a machine without an expansion chassis, using a GTX570 as a dedicated GPU card, and the Quadro 4000 as a dedicated GUI.

    16 Blur Nodes 11 FPS
    32 Blur Nodes 06 FPS
    64 Blur Nodes 03 FPS
    01NR 2 Nodes 12 FPS

    So, basically, a single GTX680 is running faster then the combination of the GTX570 with a Quadro 4000.

    This seems counter intuitive to everything I have heard previously, has anyone else seen this before?

    No, this is exactly how it was for the last year.

    the Q4000 is a toy.
    Great GUI card…thats it…

    Want power ? get Cubix

    I would venture to guess that your Q4k/GTX680 test was impaired due to splitting the power to run both cards…

    I was under the impression that the 680 needed 2 power sources and the Q4k is old at this point, so it is likely not as power efficient…

    That is a guess, I’m still running the v8 config guides 5770/Q4k… but I’m putting in a 640/680 today or tomorrow… just in time for v10!

    Hey Sasha,

    Not using the Q4000 as a GPU at all, only as a GUI.

    But, I can’t work out why I was getting faster results when I used the 680 as both the GUI and the GPU
    (1 card, not 2 680’s).

    I thought that the system was always supposed to perform better when there was a dedicated GUI card.

    Also, I can’t work out why I’m getting higher speeds from the 680 than the 570, ever benchmark I’ve seen says the 570 should be faster….

    Our “Big” system has a Cubix, this is just a smaller “b” rig that gets used for conforms, small HD jobs, and ideally, I want to be able to use it to render out completed 4k jobs from the big room if the big room is booked, and make small changes if necessary – let’s say a single shot needs to change, for example.

    Hi Eric,

    Interesting thought – I’ve got another NVidia that I’ll try as a GUI card.

    Does anyone here know if you use a Aux power y-split, will the computer give the necessary power, or will it limit the card?

    I’ll try using Cuda-Z on the GPU by itself, then on the GPU with y-split, and see if i get a different result.

    Make sure you enable “direct to SDI” mode.
