I agree with Russ: you are talking about fix flaws of a other than that working system. But FCP X is not a professional NLE. It’s a prosumer product, a iMovie on steroids. If u look at the price, it’s meants to be bought by the mass, not just by professionals. FCP x is a decision of valuaing quantity over quality.

It’s been a while. Missed ya man. When you through a word like “Shit” on the COW, it means you are really pissed 😉
Well my experience with PP is long ago, it’s the first NLE I started with – it was version one.
Did a job a while ago on a newer version, seemed stable, user friendly and far more Pro than FCP X.
For music video editing VEGAS is genious: You can set the timeline to ms which is far more precies than frames. AVID, I must admit I was always scared off – the user interface and the whole workflow doesn’t seem to go with the way my brain works.
But before I switch to this f….g &%$&* piece of s..t software – yes, I would go for AVID.
Or: I simply stick with my last FCP version – I am very happy with that.

Why did they do this?
I really cannot understand, how a big company like Apple can make such a fatal decision in Software development???????

I hope you are right, Hector, cause I fear, that – seeing the price of the new software – they really want to push into the semi-pro market of mini freelancers and wannabes, that are creating web & YT & VIMEO content – and in this case – they wouldn’t wanna fix it – in this case, they did not do a mistake, but made exactly the right product…just not for us!
Yes, I think a petition would be a brilliant idea!!!

Well, don’t get me wrong I am up & open for changes, since I always was an autodidact, I don’t mind learning a new interface. And I do think a lot things are amazing in this new X version: Magnetic Timeline, Media Management, no render time and so on.
But simple things like OMF, XML opening FCP 7 docs, just to name a view, are basic essential ingredients of a pro workflow.

I have to agree with Daniel: Those Missing features make it a Prosumer version orientated on the YouTube Vimeo publishing semi-professional market. That is certainly a gap, they are smart to push into, but then release that parallel and not instead the Professional NLE Software , which FCP was standing for.

Without those features, FCPX is nothing but iMovie on Steroids.
And I was ALWAYS loyal to FCP over many years, but if they are not fixing all those problems, I will switch to AVID, and I swear I never thought I would ever consider this in my life!!!!!

AND: What is with colou??????? They killed it!

Such a genious application – COLOUR was a masterpiece of software.

I’m so happy to hear that. I did follow this thread very closely, since it deals with a lot of issues that interest me a lot. I’m myself a total autodidact, originally coming from dance and choreography. Over making dance films, I taught everything myself from scratch. And when I received my first prices and even got to make a short film for the international Rotterdam Film Festival, I ha to face a lot of jealousy, prejudice and criticism: the stupid dancer, trying to be a filmmaker. But exactly like you I got the F..k you all attitude. Don’t forget some of the great filmmakers today made it like this. Fight for what you believe in: listen to advice, but know what to ignore. ALWAYS trust your gut feeling! Because all the tech nerds nowadays forget: editing is not a science and about gathering as much theoretical knowledge as possible, but it’s and ART Form!!! I think a lot of people here are very long in the business, and they feel that people like you taking an unjustified shortcut to the road of fame. I ven do understand them, because I sometimes encounter young kids, barely 18, just bought a Mac, made a business card and now they call themselves editors. It makes me also angry since I look bakck on 13 years o experience and hard work to be where I am today. But I still think, the attacks on your where too harsh and out of proportion and showed a lot of inner anger and bitterness. That is why I am happy that you succeeded !!!!!! Congratulations and way to go!!!! When I starte dancing, people told me I was too old and beve would make it anymore- I ignored them and managed to make a quiet respectable theatre career, performing all over the globe. So, who cares what those people said ;-).
Still: don’t be mad on the COW: it’s an amazing forum, with great people, who do an amazing job in helping others. This site helped out o the S..t many a times! And it is – hands down- one of the best of it’s kind on the Net. Morgan, both – you and the COW – are the winners here. 🙂 have a great day and successful continuation of your teaching career.

Yes, I know that, that is why I usually use a monitor.
As I said, it was not possible at that time. So, the question of the LCD versus EVF aroused and
I just would simply like to know, if the image that is ingested in the computer is the one of the LCD or the EVF – since the EVF’s image is extended about 15% behind the LCD’s image borders.

Glad to hear! So, what was the issue?
Tips? Well, depending on your computer system and its strength.
In General: If your camera can, try already to shoot natively in progressive frame rate.
If you have to convert it later – maybe use AE or Cinema Tools – I am not so sure, if FCP does such a great job in converting frame rates. If you can spend a little extra bugs: Magic Bullet is a great tool to convert Interlaced to Progressive – very good results.
If you work on a Laptop, make sure you have your actual footage you work with on an external drive, best connected with FW800 – it’s better connection to stream HD.
If you work with a lot of Effects and Transitions and your system is not very beefy in processor power, convert maybe first to ProRes Proxy Files – they are less heavy and more workable and once you are done editing Batch & Capture the result in HiResolution again.
